Im restoring my bucket seats for my charger and have 2 sets of head rests. 1 set has equal length posts and the other has one post longer than the other. Which ones are for the bucket seats? or will they both work? Thanks

I think the even length ones fit the buckets, and unequal length fit the bench. Not positive though, so I'd like to know also.

Those sets of headrests are totally different looking. The bucket ones have the bright trim strip going around them, bench are shaped different and no trim for 68. The 70 bench headrests looked the same as the 68-69 bucket headrests (not sure of post lengths though) is that what you are referring to?

they look very similar, the ones with the longer post are just more beat up and lumpy but the pads/chrome are almost identical. Not sure what I actually have here. Going to see if a local upholstery shop can recover them if I supply new bands. The chrome should polish up.

Those are some nasty looking headrests on the bottom. You can see that the pads on the bottom are different than the top , I have a seat at home with it's headrest and a set of 70 bench headrests in the basement I can compare .

I thought only certain states required headrests in 68? I remeber it didn't become a 50 state requirement until 69. I had several 68 models that had no headrests whatsoever

I always prefered driving the 68's since the door opening post was in the back (where it belonged) so you could cruise with your arm out the window . They changed it in 69 since the "jersey key" (coat hanger) made them real easy to break into.

Headrests were optional , one side or both, up till Jan 1 1969 .

Ya the lower ones are pretty rough, starting to become detatched from the chrome. I hope the shorter ones are the right ones since they are in better shape and possibly can be recovered. I did some checking into the ones you can buy aftermarket and they seem to have shorter posts. I pulled the covers off of the seats yesterday and will start messing with them to see if I can get the shorter ones to fit right.

equal length posts are the bucket seat headrests. you may find that the bench seat headrest posts are spaced slightly farther apart
