It has been so long ago that I cannot remember what exactly I had to do ...but I did exactly what you are doing.
'69 Valiant sedan, and '73 underhood harness, for the electronic ignition and volt regulator.
As I recall, i had to do very little to make things work, maybe even as little as move one wire in the firewall plug. Couldn't have been much, or seems like I would remember the hassle.
Sorry I am so little help, but if an idiot like me can do it, you certainly can!
It takes gasoline to interest me.

Wow, sounds like I am close. I don't have wiring diagrams for the '73 so I'm not sure I can pull it off. I did get the heater fan to work though

Any 69 A-body harness will work. Other years are different, 67 being the most different.
So a B body or C body harness will not work (to start the vehicle). It's a race car so I am not worried about jockey box light, gauges, etc.

Nope. You'll need to get the wiring diagrams for both cars and find the differences in the pinouts in the bulkhead. Then the wires can be moved around to match...
Normally I fall in step with Jim, but I have personally done exactly what the OP is asking. If you plan to mimic the placement of the 1973 models VR, ECU and everything else, it all matches up. It did for me on the 3 times I've done it. My BIL has a 72 Duster with 74 underhood wiring to take advantage of the electronic ignition, 4 pin ballast resistor and non A/C. Everything works and the charging system functions as intended.
So it was just a plug and play for you? Just plug the '73 engine harness into the firewall plugs and it will run?

Yes, it really was as simple as that. I had to move the Voltage Regulator and ballast resistor to match the '74 wiring. In 1976 things changed at the harness.
