The 590 will make a lot more power than the 509, and would be my pick. Dial it in very early (102?) due to the tight converter, shift it at 6,000.
thanks what bout the 557 mp shaft? sorry if i keep askin a bunch of questions but i dont have much mechanical cam exp.
The 590 is longer duration, more lift and makes more hp. For basic bracket combos, this is about as radical as you need (or should) go. It will have enough bottom end to work OK with your converter, but there will be ET left on the table with any of the cams discussed and staying with the 3500 stall converter. Any of the cams listed here would be happier with another 1,000 rpm stall speed. Another thing is carb size. I wouldn't go with anything bigger than an 850 with a tight converter like that. If you want to run a Domintor, you will need a lot more rpm (stall) to make it work. What crank, rods and oiling system are you planning on using? Three are some options for making a LOT more hp if you start now with the proper upgrades.

im using stock bottom end and iknow the super heavy sixpack rods. high po oil pump 402 6qt pan. you think it would like a 4000 stall better? like i said im just throwing part's i have lying round together oh the rotating assembly has been balanced if that helps any hughes engines sent me based on my info a rather small cam they selected imo.but they know more than me. heh3237bl 110 lsa,1.5 int.lift @50 .540,exh.@50 548 intake duration @50 232degrees exh.237 intake opening at 50 9deg.tdc ex.51.5 cylinder pressure of 165 recomended 2000-5500 sweet spot for best et shift at 5800 6000rpm whatcha think?

I would run what you have for now. You might even run as fast shifting at 5500 rpm? The main thing with the oiling system you have is do not run real loose bearing clearances and heavy oil. You can easily pump the pan dry with only six quarts of oil to work with. It might be a good idea to run a 30 psi oil sending switch and add a warning light. Screws into the back top of the block oil passage. That way you will have a warning if pressure gets low.

You can get a Doug Herbert Roller camshaft & lifters for about the same price as a flat tappet camshaft & lifters. If you are on a tight budget they are hard to beat.

the 402 is not a 6qt pan ... unless someone modified the sump ..., it's a 4qt sump + 1 for the filter. I'd put a bigger pan on it ...

ok guy's think im goin with the 590 mopar shaft. hopefully i have no valve to piston clearance prob's. so degree it at 102 cause of the tight converter? well scratch that had a friend give me a 557 purple shaft tonight. guess that's the route we are takin now lol.
