Hey Guys,
a friend is having a problem with his 727
it has a cheetah full manual reverse valve body. when in first gear the trans seams to be slipping when he floors
it but when he drives it normal it acts fine. when he shifts at WOT from 1st (slipping) into 2nd the car will fry the tires?
2nd to 3rd is perfect tho. one of the local guys he knows said it has
something to do with a spring adjustment but wasn't very clear as if he really didn't know LOL..
He really hopes its a easy fix he don't want to pull the trans out & fluid don't smell burned.
any help for him would be great thanks

With the Cheetah RMVB, the low/rev band is NOT applied in "1". Only elements applied are the forward clutch and the over-running clutch is holding in "1". If it is slipping in "1", I might suspect that the over-running clutch rollers/springs have started to "lay over". The forward clutches are applied in ALL forward gears, so if the clutches were slipping, it would in 2nd and 3rd. The over-running clutch free wheels in 2nd & 3rd, so you would not notice slipping in those gears. More analysis needed to pin point, may include dropping the trans. If the over-running clutch is starting to fail, you are inviting an explosion of the direct clutch drum. Easy place to start - drop the pan and look for metal shavings.

DusterW2 is correct. However what he calls the forward clutch is more commonly reffered to as the rear clutch because it's behind the front clutch in the assembly. It has nothing to do with reverse though as that is handled by the rear band and the front clutch. Confused yet?

Yeah he did buy it new bout 10+yrs ago and the trans was built back then.

but he didn't start running the car till now.

He finally got everything together motor wise.

It took him kinda a long time but thats life.

the car had about 1/4 inch of dust on it hahaha.

Ok. I just wondered if someone had the valve body apart. I understand the 1/4" of dust, I'm almost there!

Your buddy needs a sprag and while in there he should buy a new billet front drum. A&A and TCS both sell them.

If it sat 10 years the valves in the valve body COULD
be all corroded and not working right(as well as the
regulator)... just something to look at
