Hey Guys,
a friend is having a problem with his 727
it has a cheetah full manual reverse valve body. when in first gear the trans seams to be slipping when he floors
it but when he drives it normal it acts fine. when he shifts at WOT from 1st (slipping) into 2nd the car will fry the tires?
2nd to 3rd is perfect tho. one of the local guys he knows said it has
something to do with a spring adjustment but wasn't very clear as if he really didn't know LOL..
He really hopes its a easy fix he don't want to pull the trans out & fluid don't smell burned.
any help for him would be great thanks

at that time does the RPM flare up noticeably? I'd wait for Kunkel to chime in so here's a BTT

When its acting like it slipping when he floors it is this from a dead stop, and just mashing the go pedal? Or is he torquing it up and then launching?

I wonder if it may be the converter flashing to its max stall if its just a full floor from a stop?

In my car if i didn't torque up against the converter before nailing it it would flash stall, and sort of seem like it was slipping. Not sure if his is the same problem.

So heres another

thats what it sounds like to me, mine has a 3500 stall and if i floor it from a slow roll it takes a second to catch.

well i dont think its the flash stall he is foot stalling it

up to about 2000rpm at the line its a little looser then a stock verter but it just isn't acting rite.

just thought its weird that it slipping in first as soon as he shifts to 2nd it will light the tires right up like he was neutral dropping haha.

He needs to be careful , if the valvebody doesn't have low band apply and it feels like it's slipping in first but is fine in other gears that sounds like the sprag is on it's way out to me ...

Some cheetah valve bodies didn't have low band apply, most of the older ones didn't. As John said, beware the exploding drum.

Very sound advice, also why you never start a burnout in 1st gear, always start in 2nd for the burnout, or ever get on the throttle-let off- and back on while in first gear with the non-band apply VB.

Also a good idea to either get the carbon fiber trans shield, or add 1/4" steel plate to the inside of the trans hump under the carpet. And upgrade to the billet steel drum.

This is what happens when the sprag goes away. The transmission spins at something like 10X its normal RPM's and things come apart, and get thrown, Toes, feet, etc. can be lost...

And another carnage incident...

what billet drum do you guy use ?

i know he dont have a big budget to spend right now
