The original rubber boots are much softer then any of the reproductions. And the repops rip easily.
If I remember correctly, for some reason the 3&4 speed (non-pistol grip) boots share the same part number as the pistol grip boots.
Its strange but true,,,,

and #3467 770 is the same part number as the pistol grip boots...
Just checked some of my parts books: 70 lists the 2950 201 number for V and L A Bodies(oblong) 70-71 lists the 2950 201 number for E and B Bodies(oblong) 70 lists the 2996 405 number for 3 and 4 speed E Bodies(square) 70-71 lists the 2996 405 number for 3 and 4 speed E Bodies(square) 72 lists the 3467 770 number for 3 speed E and B bodies 72 list the 3467 766 number for 4 speed E and B bodies
I think the 2950 201 number may be an error in the 70-71 book, it should be an A Body four speed shifter, A Body guys will have to chime in and let us know. 70 and 70-71 books list the 2996 405 number for both 3 and 4 speed cars but list the boot as square with no mention of oblong(which I assume means round?) The 72 book is the first one that mentions the 3467 770 number but only in reference to a 3 speed. Has anyone seen a boot with the 3467 766 number stamped into the base? Looks like the 2996 405 and 3467 770 are somehow correct for both the 3 speed and four speed cars. From our posts it seems that both do indeed exist with both sets of part numbers and with both the oblong and square tops on them. Comments please!

OK, so I have a repop boot that is the tall type and indeed does cause my shifter to pop out of gear. Who makes the shorter boot?

So is there a definitive answer for what shifter boot will work properly for a 4 speed pistol grip console car? I have a boot I bought from one of my dealers and it ripped immediately and pushes the the trans out of gear especailly with the console in now. With the tear it holds the gears (2nd & 4th) OK but will occasionally kick it out if I cost for a bit. Of course my dealer will warranty the boot but if it isn't gonna be any better there's no need I jsut get hiim to refund it. Someone has to know what will work for a car that is driven.
Thanks, Kevin

I know this is an old topic but I was looking to find the value on a NOS 4spd shifter boot I have with the pistol grip slotted hole,I googled the part #3467770 stamped on the ring & the boot for the 3spds comes up,Brad's NOS 70/74 B/E 3spds picture with the round hole,on Brewers they have an NOS #2996405 B/E 3spd with the round hole,I belive some where along the way the factory double assigned the part numbers or something & that #2996405 is correct for 3spd & #3467700 for 4spd,my boot is also vendor code #53495,anyone have a 3 or 4 spd boot with the part #s stamped in the ring opposite from this, also Im looking for a 3spd boot if anyone has one for a reasonable price.

I would like to revisit this post. I have a 4-speed boot #3467770 and it was new, but already had a small rip on the corner of the pistol shifter handle slot area. Finding the same problem with all the part #'s coming up with a round 3-speed hole in it. Has anybody find the answer out yet. Are there any NOS 4-speed boot that work without ripping. Are there any repro' out there that look good and do not rip. Any help is appreciated. Bob
