A couple buddies and I tried this with a case of beer and a '67 Coronet 4 door with a 318. 1/2 tank of gas. It ran wide open for 45 minutes until it ran out of gas....never did blow up. The exhaust manifolds were glowing bright red and it was spitting out the carb , but it never seized , let alone spit a rod out. Had much the same results with a couple Euro imports. Far more intoxicated on this experiment , we took a '68 Volvo 142 and a V.W. Sirocco and ran them in a vain effort to see parts fly. The Volvo ran out of gas and the V.W. was spinning at high r.p.m.'s ......I thought it was gonna happen as I heard the tell tale metal on metal sound. It lost the bolts to the fly wheel and it picked up another 1,000 r.p.m. or so. We vowed to drain the oil and coolant for the next one , but haven't tried it in years.

A couple of buddies and myself decided to scrap out a running /6... we put a heavy weight on the go pedal and waited... nothing after 15 minutes... then drained the coolant... weight back on the pedal... 20 minutes... nothing... so we drained the oil(glad this was all done out in a field).... weight back on.... well it ran long enough that it started to knock but wouldnt throw parts... we got bored after 15 minutes of it knocking and walked away... that was a case of beer and we ran out before the junker did... never did go back to see if it blew or ran out of gas... but it was fun

I didnt catch what flew out forward but I loved the little puffs coming out the top... little Cheerios.... cool... when I was in Viet Nam I put a incendiary grenade on the top of a deuce and a half(2 1/2 ton truck) engine...diesel.. all that was left of that truck was the engine and the frame so I pulled the pin set it on the engine while it was running... (those grenades burn WHITE HOT)and that engine didnt like that AT ALL(yes it was running at max governor speed)... that one threw parts EVERYWHERE... cool.. since I was in demolitions I always liked blowing stuff up... wish I would have taken a pic of us sitting in our lawn chairs sipping on a cold one waiting for the KA-BOOM... things we did to pass time... strange
