I see you spec'ed a forged crank and I beam rods, I would replace the I beams with H beams, to many stories of problems with the I beams. I had a reputable builder do my short block assy and spec the cam, he recommended a Bullit solid roller and Howards lifters, 11 to 1 compression with Eddy heads. It has over 200 runs in the 10's with no issues. Went 9.94 with 6.27 in the 1/8 a couple weeks ago. My Dart weighs about 2800.

Nothing wrong with an I-beam rod, as far as the design goes. NASCAR rods run 9500 rpm and are all I-beam. The rods in his kit are Scat with 7/16" rod bolts, they have a very good reputation. Also, the 4340 crank should be just fine. Just check the journals for taper and roundness, like you'd do on any high performance build.
Here once again is a guy with a decent plan and everyone starts telling him to spend some more money or hinting that he didn't make good choices.
In my book, the only bad choice is the ported iron heads. But maybe the horsepower they'll allow is enough for his goals? Or maybe he has a set of aftermarket iron heads?
R.
i would rather have an H beam any day when messing with chinese junk

I am curious why not to use shady dell they appear to be the most knowledgeable people on small blocks with plenty of info in there site to boot. I was thinking of having them do the machining on my R block because of there cnc programs for lightening etc.
You might get decent work done on your block, but that is where I would let it end. Just remember that talk is cheap. You can "know" a lot about something and still not be able to practically apply that knowledge.

I have Shady Dell prepped heads and short block, excellent work, I have over 200 runs on my combo with absolutely no problems. I asked Ryan to put together an engine that would run 10.50 reliably in a 2800 lb car. It runs consistent 9.90's reliably. Delivered on time and on budget.

Ryan Johnson at Shadydell ported my Edelbrocks. Even though my car has a small cam, pump gas compression, small carb, street car, through the exhaust, it still runs 10.5's @ 125mph.....I'd say they work pretty well. I'm very happy with the work he did on my heads.

if you have a problem with them you may want to explain instead of just slamming them.

Yes my stuff. Brian has a big post on all the stuff he found wrong with his motor on disassembly. You need to search two years ago. I don't think he wants to go through it all again.
