Anybody have a nice clear picture of their 11 X 2.5" rear brakes right after they rebuilt them and right before they put the drum back on? Yes, I know there is a line drawing in the tech archive. I would just like a clear color picture.

Drat, the kit I got is missing the big spring across the bottom. I think I've still got the originals.

And the cable that goes from the top down to the starwheel is the wrong length by at least an inch.

The spring comes in the hardware kit not in the adjuster kit. Also the ones with no self adjusters are different than that pic.My 69 rear thats in my 65 has no self adjusters.Rocky

The pics above show the '69-later setup with the spring-loaded adjuster cable and the bottom spring spans the two shoes. A mousetrap spring returns the adjuster lever.

The '68 and earlier cable isn't spring-loaded and the bottom spring spans from the front shoe to the adjuster lever.

Thanks for all the info. I ended up ordering two new cables and a spring kit from RockAuto. I'd originally ordered kits for 10" drums.

I'm putting the 11 X 2.5" rear brakes from a '70 Superbee (went disc on it) on my '68 pickup. The truck drums are 11 X 2", so there's about 25% more are on the shoes and the 11 X 2.5" drums are half the price of the 11 X 2" drums.

I really haven't messed with drums much. What all do you lube when you put them together? Just the starwheel?

As a side note, I'm thinking about putting the 11x2 brakes in the 2.5" drums to help with the front / back bias.

I already have 7/8" WCs. I have 11.75's up front with the larger calipers and it's still marginal on lock-up.

Don't want to add an adjustable valve, so the 25% less pad contact should do the trick.

Your situation would probably be worse with the light rear of a truck?

I'll watch for that when I start testing it all out. These trucks came with front drums too. I have a Scarebird setup that uses an 11.5" Crown Vic rotor and a GM truck caliper.

Edit: I have a lot of options for pad compounds with the GM caliper.
