i'm doing a 727 right now, that has the sloppiest front planetary spline fit i've ever felt. according to cope's website, it has the '76 and later output shaft, with the 37.5° pressure angle. i thought it wasn't physically possible to mix the two (45° and 37.5°)?

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

An early planetary will fit onto a late shaft with a sloppy fit. I would not recommend using an early planetary on a late shaft.

A late planetary will not fit on an early shaft.

that's exactly what i'm finding (i have a lot of spare parts). thanks! believe it or not, this trans was professionally built by a major player (i will not mention names). there is no way i'll use this output shaft. i've always been picky about spline fit, and haven't had any failures. yet.
