How much power / weight is this driveshaft good for???
It a 1350 unwelded driveshaft kit I bought off from mancini.
1350 Unwelded Driveshaft Kit 3 x .083 Tube $324.95 MRE1350K
My car is about 3000 pounds. I wonder how much power/toruqe can I put through it till it twists like a pretzel. slicks of course.
I have the same thing in my car. i cut it then trued it up on the lathe with a steady rest, tig welded the end on and put that end at the rear (just in case) never had it balanced or anything. been 10.40's @ around 4100lbs and 60' around 1.45-48. 315/60-15 drag radial, 4.10 gear, j convertor, motor made 790hp and 650ish tq never a vibration. i would guess its on borrowed time though

Please guys lemme know, I wanna shorten and weld this driveshaft....is the wall is too thin, I can have the driveshaft shop replace the tube with a thicker wall one. One thing though is that the tube on the mancini kit looks like it is a seamless tube.... The tubes that the local driveshaft shop have a visible seam on them.....hoever the shop owner told me they are driveshaft spicer tubes... ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif) they had a thicker wall than mine.

I thought that was a mild steel tube and IF it is I would say its too small in diameter for that wall thickness but IF its moly you should be OK... but you might call a drive shaft shop... I deal with Dynotech here in Mich http://www.dynotechengineering.com/ ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

it is mild steel!!! However, I dont understand how would they sell a kit with 1350 u joints if it would not hold up then.... I mean, why put 1350 u joints on it if the tube is weak!! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tsk.gif)

www.markwilliams.com has a nice critical speed chart that you might want to look at. A reputable drive shaft company ( I used Arizona Driveshaft)can steer you in the right direction if you give them info such as length, rpm, u-joint size, car weight, material you want to use. I went with DOM. Best bang for the $. I used 52" length, 1350 joints, DOM, 7000 rpm, 700HP, 3500 lbs, and they recommended a 3.5" dia. DOM shaft. Sorry, can't remember wall thickness.
Fastest 300
