I keep reading all of these posts about how fast and good turbo cars are yet when push come to shove i don't see any?

Anybody building a mopar powerplant one? Will we see it at josh's race next year? We had a good showing this year of NOS, NA and 2 procharged ones.

just curious

I am building one. Doubt it will be as quick as yours. shooting for low 5s on a 315 radial. I really doubt I'll make a monster event unless I get a diesel sponsor, Or Josh comes west..LOL This is all assuming I learn how to tune it!!

putting together a 65 dodge right now. Have 80mm turbo and f-2 kit. not sure which direction i want to go. If i knew the stock crank would handle the procharger it would be on there. New crank is not in the budget at the time being

Updating my Valiant to 25.5. Putting a 484 short deck B1 head BB Mopar in it with a PTE 118. Will run on E85. BS3 16 injector. I have a ways to go but hoping to have it out next season. Will be doing a lot of testing before participating at one of Josh's races but I am always there with customers.

Not a race car by any means.

390", pump gas, .520 hydraulic roller, home ported Eddy heads, 3:55 gear, 3000 converter, 3400 lbs with all creature comforts.

I'm just starting to gather parts right now to build a twin turbo gen 3 Hemi for my Duster. I had a 440" w9 motor for it, but I sold it off after my turbo savoy turned out so good.

My turbo savoy is no high end race car, but it's been in the 10's the first time out on 8 psi and 22 deg of timing with a near stock 360.

"I have seen the light!"

I've got a 99 Dakot with an R3 / W9RP and Twins setup being built by BondoBob if he ever gets it finished.

We have been running ours for years. It's really not a race car either, just your average C-body land yacht. Anyway, started with a 477 cu in RB with Indy 440-1's from 1995, K1 crank and 7.1" rods. CR is 8.6:1 with around 50cc dish in the pistons. the intercooler etc are locally built. This was our first attempt to build a forced induction engine and was built so, that we could refine things later. However, it worked pretty well the first time, so about the only upgrades have been a different header design after burning arms in to the headers for some zillion times with the first ones. The first turbos were on the small side, 68mm and old design Garrets. They run decently and produced way more power than we thought initially. However, they run out of steam at around 6000 rpm while the engine was designed to make peak at about 7500, from around 4000 the boost started to fall and the exhaust pressure started getting up. It never got excessive though. It made 1530 ft-lb and 1580 hp. The chassis has got stock front suspension, steering etc and is backhalved with four link and DOT tires. We have been running it with a loose converter, it holds at around 6500, so the power is coming already down, but that was the only way we could get it down the track with our very limited tracks and chassis tuning ability. the best ET we have run is 7.89/174.6. The trap speed is against the 7500 rpm limiter. For the last summer we switched to slightly bigger turbos, Holset HX55's that are about 72mm and a design that prefers a little more boost than the garrets. Didn't dyno it with those, but it propably puts out about 1800-2000 since the injector opening % with the same A/F are so much bigger. However, we struggeled almost the whole summer with engine misfiring and couldn't het any reasonable results. Until in our national finals where we had fixed the electric problem and the engine finally worked. However, the chassis didn't wasnt to co- operate, and driving the car needs a little different approach than before. These turbos spool slower than the old ones, but when they start producing boost, it goes up like a rocket. Got one 7.95/175 mph lifting twice in the first 330 ft.

I remember seeing pictures of the Fury being built years ago, it's just an awesome car. Was the 7.95 on DOT tires too? Great job!

Yes, and pump gas.I really have no idea which is better, a procharger or a turbo, but I know that you can build a turbovehicle in your home garage and make it work. We are still pretty far from the cars full potential, the 60 ft has been 1.28 in hte record run. I think we'll try to concentrate on the chassis next season and also get a boost controller for smoother power increase.
