I am trying to find the best front tire combination for my 70 Charger. So far I've tried 15x8.5 Centerline Drag Lites with a 3-7/8" offset (I may have to double check) using 255/60 BFGs and they rubbed on the forward side of the wheel lip. Then I tried a set of Centerlines that are 15x7s with a 4-7/8" offset (again, I may have to verify) using the same tires but these appear to narrow in the wheel well, but don't rub.

I am looking for a comparable tire that will be slightly smaller in sidewall to the rear L-60s. I don't mind if I use a 70 series tire, but I don't want them tucked in too far into the wheel well.

Any thoughts, pictures, etc would be greatly appreciated.

15x4 w/ a 205/75/15 But I get the feeling you want more tine than that. Probably 15x7 w/ a 225/70/15 would work for you. I can't imagine having a tire as big ass a 255/60 up front. A 225/70 is 27.4" tall and has s section width of about 8.8" A 215/75 is 27.7" tall with a section width of 8.5. These are both close to the height (28") and width (10.8") of your rear tires. Go here for more tire specs...

try a 15x8 with 4.5 backspace.275/60/15.It may not fit on a 70 but it worked like a charm on my 73.

I have a 15X7 rim, 4.250" backspace(Chrysler Rallye), running a Goodyear 255X60X15 on the front of my 70 Charger, no rubbing, fender or frame, just about the max backspacing with that tire, as it just clears the frame at full lock

I am running 235/60/15 BFG on a 15x7 rim with 4.5" backspace on the front. On the rear I am using 295/50/15 BFG on a 15x10 rim with a 5" backspace. The rims are Magnum 500s.
