I had no choice but to go with a roller bearing.I have never instlled one before.I was told to just tap it in and to use locktite when installing it.I was also told that the concave side goes in first, with flat side out.I also saw something about how far the bearing should go on the shaft and if its an issue I might have to sand off the ridge of the shaft.I finally was able to down load picture it shows how far the bearing fits on the shaft, the grease mark shows it fits till the ridge of the shaft. The engine was drilled for the trans but not reamed so and shaft was not cut. I could'nt use the brass bearing. Can anyone tell me the right way to get this done?? Thanks

You need to mock up your transmission installation and see if the transmission will go in all the way. This'll tell you whether you have to smooth out your shaft.
As the bearing/bushing that rides in the torque converter ring sits farther back than the pilot bushing that would be in a crank, I think you'll have to do a little metalwork.
Don't get crazy with a wrench when you do this, and you don't need the pressure plate or clutch disk in there. Just block, bellhousing and transmission.
R.

the hole in the crankshaft is probably not drilled deep enough. if it wasn't reamed for the brass pilot bushing. i ran into this on a 383 years ago trans would stop about 3/4 of an inch from the bell housing had to use roller bearing and cut the input shaft down

I did the same thing for my car. My machinist removed some material form the end of the input shaft, and I just tapped the bearing into the end of the crank.
