I like them on some things. I know it's a Chevy, but it's a super cool car. 1948 all steel coupe with a big al's toybox blown 350. Hood is off all together. Switch the car to a 40's style Plymouth or Dodge and you have a winning combination.
Jim
Edit: image changed to a link, it's too big, and besides, it's a chevy anyway!

Well, I think that it's pretty well accepted that the majority of the fastest street cars driving around these days are nitrous fed stroked big blocks made to run 8's or 9's through a single 4 barrel on pump gas. Back in the 80's things were a bit different, pro-Street was king, blown cars were the cars everyone thought were the "thing" to have.
As far as building one today? We'll I love Blown cars but only when the car has matching rear tires. For looks blown cars just look "right" being more balanced looking front to rear, with fat rear tires and a blower. But I don't like the looks of a huffer through the hood and thin rear tires, it just doesn't look as serious or well balanced appearance wise (i.e. the appearance of having way more power than you can hook).
As far as Pro-Chargers and Turbo's? They make great power and are very cost effective, efficient, etc. they make great sense (but sense is not what I consider allot when dreaming up a bad boy sreet car). I've just never liked the way centrifical blowers and turbo chargers looked with all the extra plumbing under the hoods. I'd rather see an all out roots blown/tubbed car, or step back down to a stroker BB running an "All Motor" setup.

They're still cool, A friend of mine built a 671 blown 440 in a Challenger and after fabbing an intake to run sidedraft webers it fit under the stock rallye Challenger hood too.

they are not "coming back" because they never left!! they are the coolest and the most motorhead part you could ever put on a car, they do not garner alot of attention from jonny law either! they make a wicked insne amount of power that has to be experieced first hand, the thrill of driving a pressurized car in unreal,. tire boiling low end smoke shows are the norm as well and slig shot blasts as the boost moves the car like a titan rocket! any one who doesnt like them never had one and they ARE what hot rooding is all about I myself am so sick of "perfect resto" cars, they are made by some one else in a factory all the same and available to anyone who wantted to buy one are they cool,? yes, do i own some? yes do i apperciate them? yes! but i have more fun with my hot rod cars than any other restored car i ever had( except my hemi cuda convert, that car was fun, only because i drove it!)here are 2 shots of 2 cars i have both blown big blocks both street cars, the black car has been on the street for over 10 years with some heavy duty useage,(undisputed king of the concrete jungle i might ad!) no problem other than normal maintence and the 2nd car speeks for it self, i have many high compression big cammed, etc etc built motors, but nothing is even comparable to a roots blown big inch motor, they rule!!!! wimps go home!!!!

Maybe I'm old fashioned but there's nothing cooler than a Roots IMO - except for some old mechanical fuel injected Hillborn set-up (love the stacks!!!). Turbos and Paxtons are cool, but Roots are cooler.

If you're going to cut your hood and display the S/C, what's the point of installing a mild setup? The problem then being a full blown Roots does not make for a streetable car. Can you drive it in even a mild rain shower? An under hood setup, like a centrifigual s/c, represents a compromise between a fire-breathing Roots and stock street car.

At a local Friday night cruise-in in Glen Burnie, MD no less than FIVE roots-blown cars showed up. And this is an informal cruise-in to an ice-cream stand - not club sponsored. There was a blown Hemi Pro-Street '67 Barracuda fastback that I heard took best-in-show in Ocean City, MD this Spring, a blown Cleveland-powered '68 Torino, at least one blown street rod...as well as a lot of other great iron. I also know a guy with that 144 blower under a flat '84 Regal hood. Runs mid 11s!
Not everyone can afford blowers, but if you can, go for it!

well your car is one of the few drivers and one of the first instances i have heard of a roots blown car being drive in the rain. the comment was in respect to this car : hes got two edelbrock pro-flows on there and i would think the car has never been in a real downpour.
