An 8-71 can easily add 200 hp to any engine you've got while maintaining driveability. But it also means a big tacky hole in the hood. Is it time for blowers to come back or not? Let's see your blown cars! And--more importantly--let's hear how fast they are.

i think that for most street bound cars , the centrifugal SC's will continue to remain the norm.

In the 70's I loved seeing 6-71 fed cars. Now you are correct that the gaping hole is an eyesore. Funny how 30 years and $5,000 cars now worth $2million changes your perspective.

I'd never want one of those things peeking out of my hood, not cause I think it looks strange, but because I would not want the attention from John Q. Lawman.

Meanwhile, I notice that on the attachment the carbs sat on top of the blower. With the centerfugal (sp?) ones, I've seen a box that seems to blow into the top of the carb. I understand why from a physics standpoint. Has anyone made a super-low-rise roots style blower?

One more..

Back in April I ran 12.99 @ 99. I got it tuned in ALOT better now. Had it on a chassis dyno, but the #'s and sheets didn't do any "justice" 'specially since they didn't coincide. It said that I made 323 at the rear tires. 440 .030 over, BDS 8-71 dual Holley 830's. Never had a problem with the "Lawman". A couple actually told me I did a pretty good job with building it.

I think they're a bit too much of the 'in your face' look. (Pun intended). I much prefer the sleeper or 'Q ship' look.

B&M/Holley has a single 4 bbl. 144 cc roots blower that fits under a lot of hoods.

I like them on the 30's, 40's and 50's hot rods more than a 60's ride. Just my personal preference though.

They're definately COOL.I don't have a pic, but, a friends 6-71 fed 440 puts his 3900lb car down the strip at 11.10@122.It makes for some REAL EYE CANDY at the local cruise nights. It's a little less complicated than a turbo set up but it probably wouldn't sell as many copies than a big or Twin turbo set-up.What's the concept and intension for the car in Question???

For a street rod, they look good. I prefer to keep everything under the hood. Plus, I hate chromed-out engine compartments.

Nothing gives away your intentions better than seeing a big ol' blower sticking through your hood. I like 'em.
Let some blinged out ricer pull up next to you at a stop light and he'll spot his shorts if you blip the throttle.

They better run 7.90's, or I'm bored. i.e., "If it's won't go, chrome it."

I'm passively looking for an 8-71 style Roots for my B-motor powered jet boat. A centrifugal just wouldn't look right.

Underhood of a stealth 69 B-body is another story. Got a 69 Sport Satellite w/factory a/c that NEEDS a centrifugal set-up.

In general, the ProStreet big blower thing is so overkill and overdone it's had it's day. Sorry you die hards, I still like it, but it seems that more practical street cars are the norm again for a good reason.

I still say if you're gonna run a Roots tyle blower it's gotta have the chassis to back it up too.

I absolutely agree those 671's with carbs are a real eye sores. I'm gonna throw this double teflon striped 871 with Enderle Bird injector spaced up 4 inches for fresh air in the dumpster first thing tomorrow morning.... I have no idea what made me think this would be neat looking sticking out of the hood on a 575 inch hemi. Glad you guys learned me good. Mark ME LEARNED

It all comes down to how much attention do you want. You can easily attain the same hp levels with turbos or NOS, and keep it under the hood. Personally, over the years I have seen so many blown/carbed street cars, they all pretty much look the same. I still like them and flat love the loping idle. But most guys I've met and tried to talk to with a big huffer will barely give you the time of day and have an air of superiority and arrogance about them. I love seeing a guy like that get spanked by a flat hood.

definitely cool

but I don't like the hood hole. No hood looks better, and bonus points if your engine compartment looks something like Duster Dave's
