Guys,

I am in need of a new speedo gear for my 727. I changed the rear gear in my 8.75" from 2.76 to 3.55 and need to get ready for when my gauges come back from Intrument Specialties.

Looking online indicates I need part # 2438933 (33 tooth yellow) speedo gear. Can anybody confirm if this is right? Car has 3.55 rear gear with 28" tires (275/60R15).

Does anybody here (sponsor maybe) sell these gears? Can anybody here point me in the right direction on the best place to order one from. Anybody here have on laying around they would sell?

I saw the thread earlier with somebody else was looking to replace their speedo gear and this jogged my memory to go ahead and swap mine.

Is there anything else I will need when I do the swap?

Thanks!!

I would see what a dealer wants for one and I've seen em for sale in the parts for sale sections here good used. I would put a piece of flat stock across a rear tire and measure the exact diameter to ground. People have said the MP charts in the archives ain't accurate plus I should use rollout to get the actual dia (Circumference "rollout" divided by Pi = dia) but I used it as is with my gear ratio to make my selection & it made the odo (& the speedo) come in dead on.

CRT list them for 20 bux each till you get up to the 35 tooth then it jumps to 75 bux.

you can find them on ebay, here in for sale section.

i have a few and just sold a 32 tooth one with the housing to another member.

i dont have any yellow ones but have a 32 and a 35 gear and a few smaller and larger ones.

you may get it close enuff to live with if you cant score a yellow one.

look in the trans section, seems I just saw a bunch of them for sale here also.

I just checked my small stash of gears. I've got a 32, and a 34. Sorry.

Nothing to see here. Carry on.

There is a guy on here that I bought one from, don't remember who it was. He has 100s of them. Real nice transaction.

Just post a an ad in the wanted section here & he should reply.

I checked the tranny section of parts for sale on this site. Didn't find the pinion gear I needed then went to fleabay. Found the right one for $9 delivered. Looked as good as new. When refering to the pinion chart to get the correct numbered tooth pinion gear, I needed to go one higher. For example, after doing the math, if the chart said I needed a 33 tooth, the 34 tooth gave me the correct speed reading. Same again for another application. The chart said I needed a 26 tooth, but the 27 was more correct. But anyway, the chart gives you a ballpark of where you need to start.

Layson's has them according to their catalog. I called my local dealer looking for one and they were unable to get them anymore.
