Just Recently I was able to drive the Duster to the orginal owner who raced it from 70-73. He had some pictures. It was just as cool for me as it was him. Its been a street and strip car since day one. I found the Haze in a barn here in Maine back in 86'. Been driving and racing it the last 20yrs. This pic is what it looked like back in 71.

Nice looking Duster! I'll guess 11.80's, maybe 11.40's once you get it dialed in.

Hi Rick, that's really cool. The pics are awesome. I'd love to find old pics of my cuda like that. I can amagine the owner must of loved seeing that pull back in his drive way.

Thanks guys..yes Ryan it was awesome we are getting together in a week with 2 other owners! that owned it in the 70's, I'm locating all of the decals and having the "Purple Haze" duplicated. It will be magnetic so I can put them on when I go to the track.. he is really pumped about that!

Been following your 71 Duster Resto..outstanding ! My Duster has never been restored I just striped it down this year and repainted it, while the engine was out I repainted the engine bay. Back in 86" when I bought it, I welded up the fender walls where the headers were, went back to stock for about 2 summers..then I went back to its heritage, But more street and some strip it had 34,000 in 86 now it has about 50K on it, I have enjoy this Duster every summer for the last 25yrs. While I was in the Marines it went with me. The interior is all original except carpet and buckets, it came with Bench. Still have original fender tag and 2 broadcast sheets. The #s engine is long gone. but still has the #s 4 speed in it. I have everything to go back stock if I get the urge.

Cool Story Rick, Now show them some pics at the track with the decals on it. It looked great. I had no idea you found the original owner. That is very cool. Rick you should really go up and get that plum crazy 70 swinger 340 four speed that is just sitting. That one also has "Purple Haze" on the doors. They would make a great pair.

Just an update finally got the Duster to track this past weekend, the ole Haze is pretty close to the way it looked in the early 70's alot of the older guys remember the car. I made over 20 passes best was 7.42 @ 94.7 mph.. Had alot of fun.. I need to get more seat time to get more consistent..challenging keeping the balance of street and strip with a 4 speed.

Very nice story and car!!!!!
My buddy used to have a 70 auto with a Racer Brown Cam and a ton of head work.
He ran a "J" converter and 5.13's, best he went back then (early 80's) was 11.70's.

Are all the decals magnetic??
