Anybody ever done this? I saw a 5-speed for sale locally. If I could make it work in an a-body i would grab it and store it away with the rest of my junk. (we need a gremlin stuffin his garage full of parts!!)

You'd have to cut the floor up and fab a x-member but I'd think you could make it work. Make sure it's one for a V8

Wouldn't the V-6 be the same?

You'd think but they are not. I must have called 20 places in order to find one for my 5.2 dakota. and they are about $500 more because of that. I had to have mind rebuilt ($1200) keep that in mind when you buy it.

V-6 uses an AX-15 tranny...weak. 5.2 uses an NV3500, better but build the motor much or get a lot of traction dropping the hammer and you'll munch the tranny.

The problem with the NV3500 is the gear ratio's...

V8 NV3500 5-speed
Ratios: 1st 4.01, 2nd 2.32, 3rd 1.40, 4th 1.00,5th 0.73, Rev. 3.55

They suck for a car... You actually never use 1st, so you'd have a 3 speed with OD.

My 95 dak sport is pretty stock and runs 14.0's or has. at the expense of 2 rears (under warrenty) and well the original trans lasted a while 130k but was really whining around the 100k mark. I got a unit from the yard (35k so the guy said) for about $700 I put a new clutch and all in. So last year I was driving and bang stayed in 4th...finally got it unstuck, took to a trans shop and well not cheap and no used units to be had. 1st gear is ok, My truck has 3.92's and 1st gear is good for about 2 seconds. It does however produce a lot of smoke.
