Hi

In this forum has been lots of discussion about what is a correct space saver tires for 70-71 E-bodies, but so far I have not found any information about how to decode the space saver mfg date.

My friend has two F78-14 BF Goodrich space saver tires without rim.

The other is a V-1 tire and has a code of BAL7 CU1402. On the tire tread is a painted code L7 CU 9 29 34

The other is a non V-1 tire having code BFL7 CU1 337

How to decode these markings and which one might be a closer match for a '70 Challenger vert with A26 SPD?

That form of DOT codes started during the '71 calendar year.

BAL7 CU1402
BA = UNIROYAL GOODRICH TIRE MANUFACTURING AKRON OHIO UNITED STATES
L7 = size
CU1 = type
402 = 40th week of '72 or '82
painted code L7 CU 9 29 34
L7 = size
CU = type
9 29 = September 29 (40th week)
34 = ??

BFL7 CU1 337
BF = UNIROYAL GOODRICH TIRE MANUFACTURING WOODBURN INDIANA UNITED STATES
L7 = size
CU1 = type
337 = 33rd week of '77

Do either or both of these have "FOR TEMPORARY USE ONLY" in large outline letters on the backside? Best guess - GM f-body (Camaro/Firebird).
