Oh
Is there a date code on a 727 transmission to help determine the build date of the car???
I have my original trans but not the engine, k member is hard to read - almost impossible to read, and my car is an A12 with a 426 on the tag so that doesn't help either.
Any other ways to know an exact date???
p.s wiper motor was changed out also.
Thanks David

Where's the fender tag or broadcast sheet? The VIN will help a little. You can compare it to other cars with close VIN's

The tranny is a hit or miss deal.

Fender tag I have but it's 426 which was the second batch of A12 RR's.
No broadcast sheet as it was changed to a 70 charger bucket seat interior long before I got it.
I have a RR bench seat back in it now.
Can't seem to find close enough cars to my VIN but our guess is late April very Early May. Door panels are April 17th.

You can approximate the actual build date of an A12 car by tracking other non A12 lynch road cars with VINs close to yours. My A12 is 263554 and actual build date is on or about 4/26, I know this cause the dealer wholesale invoice I have is dated 4/29 and was printed right after assembly. Trans does have a date but they are usually assembled weeks before the car gets assembled.

Thanks.
Mine is 267960 and unless you know someone close to yours there is no info out there for me to contact the cars around mine. I looked on the registry but that info is not on there.
I have info of car 261--- being an early April car and car 271--- being a May 8th car.
I am trying to get close so I can get a wiper motor close to what mine should be and any other date code parts I may need.
I was trying to use A12 RR's as a guide for my info.
Thanks for the info.
I don't want to buy 1 and after getting it redone finding out it's too early or too late for my car.
Up to 2 weeks prior seems to be the normal range so far.
Where is the date on the transmissions?? in the line of numbers on the pan rail?????
David

This VIN would be consistent with a regular production car with an SPD of 506 or 507.

Its the 4 numbers on pan rail after the part #, assuming its a 093 trans mine has the #s 2776 which is March 4, 1969, about 6 weeks ahead of assembly, pretty consistent with all my other original parts

If you are trying to find a "closer" best guess on the car's actual build date, look at the sequence number on the top line of the fender tag.

It's my OPINION that this is the "body build sequence number", in this example it appears (to me) that these bodies were scheduled to be built at the plant (same day to batch for paint?) 95 units apart, much closer than their SPDs or VIN sequence would indicate (2113 VINs apart).

I would "ASSUME" the Sport Satelite was on time & the Coronet R/T was a day early, providing they didn't have any issues within the plant.

So, what is the sequence number on the top line of your fender tag?

FWIW, here are your tags mixed in with similar sequence numbers and SPDs. The 426 cars are A12 cars.

So I guess the real question is do you want to find the SPD or the actual date. It would appear that your car was built 1147 units early.

Doug and Dan; May 4th and 5th were a Saturday and Sunday. Any idea what the plants production days/hours were for the weekends?

I don't. I do know that I have six to seven consecutive days of SPDs at the 1969 STL plant so there was (presumably) work on Saturdays and Sundays.

I would think weekend production would be 'seasonal' depending on the time of year, total sales volume, plant production capability, if one plant had to pick up production because another plant was down and things like that.

A nice thing about a large plant data base is it gives you a better idea as to production volume on a per week or per day basis.

What I was thinking is that if the SPD was 506 (Monday) and the car was 1147 early then depending whether they worked that weekend makes it hard to say if the actual production date was thurs/friday or on the weekend.

My car's VIN is WM23V0A185788, the sequence number is 185226 which makes it 562 cars early. The SPD is C18 which was a Thursday so my car was probably built on Wednesday, December 17th 1969.

fun stuff.

Keep the info coming as I am learning a lot
from this. I will have to get a better look at the

Any other areas I could look at to see???
At least I know now that it was built the first week of May.
Thanks David

With Automotive production there are many variables that changes the actual date that is considered a cars build date. I have found that every year or type of car had its screw ups after the fender tag and broadcast sheet were made. With E Bodies I believe it has to do with the options that were ordered and how available these option were and how well the production plant kept track of the parts needed to for the build. I thave found at the end of the production year parts were not tracked as well as during the year. Maybe this is because of holidays or students or new employees in May June and July. I would think that an A12 build might have similiar problems with attaining the special parts it needed.

Now any of you guys have any theories on why A12 Road Runner production stopped much earlier than A12 SuperBee Production or does your research tell you something different.I judge this be looking at VIN numbers and Super Bees being much later. The only real difference in the cars from normal production car is the hood from Runner to Super Bee.
