I have been considering a field trip to Norwalk this fall and have a couple of questions. First, do they have the motor blanket requirement on cars running in the nines? Also, My car has not been certified, will that be an issue? I do have a cage with a window net and all the required equipment but, have not had the opportunity to get the certification. I went to a Pittsburg Chrysler Classic a couple of years ago and had a great time! Met a great group of Mopar guys who informed me that I just have to go to Norwalk!

No on the engine blanket. As far as the cage cert ---- maybe an issue. What kind of times do you run? If it's in the high 9's you may be ok but if in fairly deep that could be a problem. It is an NHRA track and not all times is the tech extensive but it can be. When I was running in the 9.90 range no problem but now running in the 9.70 range and yea they may check.

And YES you have to make the trip to Norwalk!!!

Well, Dwayne Porter built a 572 with 440-1 345 Cnc ported heads for my Charger over the winter. Last week I ran a 9.12 at 146 MPH with a 1.25 60 foot times. I missed NHRA tech inspection this spring at my local track. Inspection is only available a few times a season and my car wasn't ready. I guess I'll check with the track to see if I can make arrangements for certification. Norwalk is a 600 mile trip for me and it would really spoil my day if I made the trip and could't run the car!

Hey Jim
I'm in the same boat as you.
I missed out on cert tech at the "ville" for the Coronet cause it wasn't ready yet. Now that i switched from roots to F2 Procharger it will need it. Let me know if they run one again, I'll go up and meet up with ya.You definetly have to go to Norwalk!!

Dwayne was telling me about customer with a 572 with a set of cnc 345`s. Said it lifts the wheels pretty good..

How much does your charger weigh?

Well, I would say It was about 3 feet and wasn't showing any signs of stopping when I lifted. I ended up banging up my oil pan and springing a leak. My feeling on wheelies are if you're going up, you're not going forward. They look great for the spectators but are hard on parts!

There is a tech guy that is about 20 min. away from the track. He came out to the track at the same race last year for me and did our car. There is a extra fee that he charges but for me it was well worth it because that is the race that I crashed at . If there is more than one guy maybe that feee can be shared. I will have to dig up his no. or you can contact div 3 for his info. If your car falls into the area of the rules by all means get it done. There could have been issues with my nhra lic if I had not got it done. Dont play with the man!!

Thanks Jake, I have never had the car certified before. I believe that I have met all the NHRA rule requirements such as SFI equipment and driver's licence but, is there anything specific that I should be concerned with?

One of Norwalks employees is a nhra tech inspector now. I think his name is Pete. Call the track if you can't get it done close to you. I was at Norwalk this weekend and they were teching cars in the pits. Rumor has it, they may start checking them as you enter the staging lanes and if you are not running a current tag of theirs, back to the pits. That came from the tech inspector Rich, that tagged my car Saturday. As for certification tags, they like seeing them regardless if the car will run in the nines or not because a NHRA employee has already said the cage was safe per the specs.

Oh, the Norwalk race is a must.

If your car is running that far into the 9's then you may want to check into the "MopowerNow" "special rules" for 5/8's wheel studs and wheelie bar requirements. I think Blankenship's "MopowerNow" crew is running that show, aren't they?
