Anyone used this before? Apparently they have GG1 Forest Green in this line for a basecoat. I've used DBC and know how well that works. Curious if anyone has had good or bad experience with it. I can have it made in Sherwin Williams as a custom color as well.

I have used it as the base coat many times and then used the top of the Line clear. Here is my vert I did 10 years ago. Still looks awesome and "0" paint problems.

I agree. I just painted a 68 Cuda GG1.

Love them 68 MOPARS! GTS 340 auto, Charger R/T 440 4-speed, Superbee 383 auto, GTX 440 auto, D100 (new front frame 5.7 hemi - in process), Formula S 340 4-Speed A/C (it's green), 383 auto Roadrunner (maybe a hemi - waiting) and a 68 W200 Power Wagon. Drivers: 07 Cummins and 14 Ecodiesel 4x4.

How did it cover and did you use a sealer with a similar color? The guy at the paint place said that he has seen some greens that did not cover very well at all. I always try to match the sealer as close to the base color as possible.

i use it a lot on used cars or beat up cars that have some of the crash damage done. it basicly sprays the same as dbc but shopline doesn't have the basecoat additive to speed up cure time. i use dbc additive without problems. the additive is dx84 or 87 i can't remember the correct number.
coverage is hit and miss. the paint store can convert over a single stage formula to a base clear formula by adding 100% basecoat clear tint and binder tint to the single stage mix which already has single stage clear tint. because of this the base won't have decent coverage.
ask the selling dealer if the formula is a basecoat formula or a converted formula before you buy it.

We have a mixing bank full of it
Works great. PhotoMatch works great too
Use a good quality clear

The guy said they have the formula in base and single stage so it should not be a converted color. I know some green, no matter what brand have poor coverage. Sounds close to the same as House of Kolor Orion Silver, which covers extremely poor over the wrong sealer. I'm doing a complete job so not particularly worried about a match to existing paint. I figure a black or gray/green sealer will get me close without having to get 2 gallons of base.

If you are painting an entire car including trunk and engine bay and it is not a vinyl top car you will need 2 gal of base.

I will be doing trunk and engine bay, but it's a convertible so that saves a bunch of paint.

The green is one of the more finicky paints I have sprayed. It covers well but each coat gives a darker version of the color. You have to be careful not to put two coats in one place and then 3 in others. The places where there are 3 coats will be darker. The places with 2 coats will be fully covered, just lighter.

When we finished up, it looked great. Had one small dark spot on the trunk lid.
