Has anybody ever come up with production numbers for 74 Challengers? I just bought a 360 Rallye and am curious.

Thanks

11,354 according to Musclecar Color History: Barracuda & Challenger, by Paul Zazarine. I assume that's total production, not just Rallyes.

1968 Charger project. I don't have a fender tag or a buildsheet, so it's getting a 440. Help me decide on a color--most everything looks great! (NOT white. My Challenger is white. Need some variety :D)

Yeah, I got that from the Galen book too. Am hoping there's something out there per engine/model, etc.

Mine was a triple-white 318, but is now double-white (no more vinyl top) with all the rallye goodies except for the fender scoops and associated stripes.

IIRC that's also the number in the Standard Catalog of Chrysler.

I stand corrected. I just assumed the GG number and the PZ number were the same. Nice cars, people! Maybe the 74's will finally get a little respect.

Mine is red, black interior. Originally a 360 slap-stik, now a 4-speed. Pretty ratty now, but lots there to work with.

The information I got from Damler Chrysler Corporate Historical Collection was 16,437 (about 2 days production for Camaroos), with no mention of how many were rallye models although it is rummered around 6500. Mine is a mid april production with a green interior, green vinyl roof and a green exterior. Just about to turn 39000 original miles (non restored car).

While on the subject, just curious.....

For the 1974 Challenger owners here;

Who has the highest VIN?

Who has the highest Scheduled Production Date?

That is the Month / Day / Hour (MDH) on your door sticker?

Mine's C04, so right in the middle.

Then again, didn't E-body production only go half a year in 74?

The highest scheduled production date I have seen (so far) for a 1974 E-body is 426. (April 26, 1974)

My brother in law bought a brand new 74 rallye 318 car. It was white with black stripes and black interior. I was 4 years old. It's the reason that I love challengers to this day. My old man used to get so mad when he would smoke the tires in front of the house. I thought it was cool. Years later when I bought my first house there was a guy down the street that had a blue 74. I told him about my brother in laws and he asked his name, when I told him, he told me he bought that car off him in 78. (my sister confirmed the story) The car he has now is not the same one though. He sold that one in 80 and that guy painted it red and wrapped it around a tree 3 months later. And he told me the one he has now is not a rallye car, it's just cloned up like one.

Sorry no info on production numbers, just a cool story to me about a couple of 74s.
Good luck with yours!

I saw the movie around 1972? and loved challengers ever since. Got my first one in 1976, totaled it. Got my second one at 18 years old and wrapped it around a telephone pole in 1978.
Then went a couple years without one and then started buying 100 dollar ones to drive after I fixed them. I had 3 junkers during the early 80s.

Then I bought this 74 from a friend who just had it painted with imron paint in 1984.
I put it back togeather and with a better 340, the original 360 was gone when I got the car.
It vapor locked and ran like crap because I didn't know anything at the time. I parked it from 1986 to 2003.
I had a drag racing accident in Jun of 2003 and came home off the NHRA tour for 2 months while my car was rebuilt and opened my garage and looked at the car. What a mess I made of it during the 80s when I didn't know much. I changed the cam, carb, fuel pump, wiring, dash pad and a ton of other stuff to make it street worthy. I started driving it again and what fun just having it reliable. It's only a 340 and am not looking to go real fast in it or set any ET records with it.

Now since 2006 I have been trailering it with us on vacation and have driven it all over the country, oh what fun.

Won't be mine. Mfg date 9-73 with an MDH of 090610.

Mine was Avocado Gold (weird olive green) with white vinyl top, white interior, with every comfort and convienance option possible, white stripe, 318, auto, with a/c.

It looks a litle different now.

I know this thread is old but is there any new info on this? I just can’t see only 6 Rallye cars being sold in Canada…. I have owned a couple. My current car has SPD 422
