I have a 92 dakota. magnum v6. new fuel pump. new fuel filter. wont start unless you spray ether. once running, runs fine.

Will start sometimes right away.

Acts like it has no fuel.

Are there any parts near motor that go bad in fuel system?

any thoughts?
thanks

Fuel pressure regulator.

Did you check fuel pressure before and after parts replacement?

It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

even though you replaced it, the new one could be bad, or an obstruction in the line could have caused it rather than a bad pump.

if you do not have at least 45 psi, you don't get gas through the injectors. not positive about the psi, might be in the high 30's, but either way you need to know what it is now after you changed the pump at the injectors.

i guess my confusion is....a spray of starting fluid, and it runs perfect. Once running, it runs fantastic. sometimes it starts, other times, will not start. can crank for on/off for five mins, then spray ether and she fires.???

you need a fuel psi gauge. just because it's new. means Nothing. could have a bad coolant temp sensor or intake temp sensor. that controls fuel also. cold engine= more fuel. if sensors read higher temp, won't have enough fuel spray from the injectors. (like no choke.) just because it has no engine light on doesn't mean anything either. could read 200 deg or something. So it is in it's operating parameter, just not correctly. computers were not that smart yet back then to detect minor problems.Check fuel first. getting a bum pump out of the box is not that rare, Especially cheaper brands.

I had a dakota that would act like that alot of parts replaced trying to figure it out . figured out it wasnt getting fuel sometimes pulled the bed off again and found 2 wire terminals broke off the wires were stiff enough to touch the terminals sometimes to run . the dealer said they didnt have them and wanted to sell me the whole pump sender assy i think i fixed it with some weather pack pins hope this helps,

92 is Sbec III w/return fuel.40 psi is the right fuel pressure. Regulator is on the rail.No regulator in tank.Check the codes and the fuel press.

Leave the gun.......take the Cannoli's....Mike
