OK folks,

Help me find an answer for my Dad. In 1958 he bought a PLymouth that was a year old. I have pictures of him in police uniform standing at the back of the car all Barney Fife looking with his foot on the bumper. The car looks like a 1957 Plymouth Savoy, but he said it had a stick shift on the column. There was the Belvedere and the Savoy, now I'm being told there was a 3rd model. Anyone know what model this was? He claims the trim on the side is different with all his research from the Belvedere and the Savoy. TRhey look simular but not the exact.

Any help would be awasome to help him descipher this mystery.

S/N: it looks the same as the Johney Lightning car produced about 5-6 years ago. Teal color with the big fins... but he says the picture shows different chrome.

Joe

Here is a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere:

Here is my 1957 Plymouth Savoy:

Same car from the rear:

The model lineup is like this; the entry level was the Plaza. It came with no side trim standard, and the trim off the Savoy was optional. The Savoy came with a basic straight spear, and there was a dogleg to separate the two tone if the optional two tone was applied. The Belvedere came standard with one straight piece of trim that ran from the front fender to the rear of the quarter panel. This is the top piece of the two tone as seen in the first picture. If the car had the optional two tone, then the lower piece was added to make the triangle of color running the length of the car. The Fury was the top dog, and it ONLY came in white with the gold anodized aluminum side trim that ran the length of the car and up the tail fin.

The 1957 had the triangular tail light with the backup light at the bottom. The 1958 had a round tail light where the backup light is on my car and an aluminum "reflecting tower" (that didn't really reflect anything) up the back of the fin. Then the reverse light was in the rear bumper extension below the license plate. The side trim for the 1958 is different, but the model lineup is the same.

Thank you,

That should give my Dad alittle closure.
