Noone has probably noticed but I've been laying low the last few months while i worked through a health issue. Well the verdict is in, and there is nothing else to work through.

Inoperable Pancreatic Cancer.

If I can make it through the new few weeks to be able to start Chemo, I've got a 50/50 shot at being around till the first of the year. (At least I'll find out of the Myans were right).

I just learned that today, and beleive or not, that is far better news than I was being given just late last week.

I'm barely 51, so this really kinda sucks. But, having time to get my affairs in order is better I suppose than just not coming home from work one day due to a traffic accident or something like that.

I 'll be posting a wiw for my Charger in a few weeks to help my Wife know what she can expect for it when the time comes.

There's no real point in my rant, except I needed to tell someone and I'm not ready to tell anyone at work until I have some things in order.

Steve

I don't really know what to say to you, besides the obvious hoping for the best for you.

Kevin (340six) was stage 3 with it spreading to a lot of areas and he's still with us, I can only wish the same for you.

Oh man I am so sorry for you.. and for your family..

Being one year older than you, I've often wondered how I would deal with a situation similar to yours.. if I was given the news.. I'm glad that you seem to be in good spirits and hope that you continue to endure..

God bless you and I wish you and your family the best..

I know who you are... YOU are the guy that has enough balls to drive your car how YOU want, regardless of what the value is! Pavement? Sure! Rain? You bet! Gravel? Even better!
Sorry to hear the news. Lets keep a positive attitude and hope for the best.

Wow, sorry to hear. That does really suck. Hope chemo goes well for you, hoping for the best. Life span in a situation like this is not something they can predict with a whole lot of accuracy. You could be gone 3 weeks from now or still here 3 years from now.

Sorry about the news. Stay positive and hope for the best.

I'm 51 too. Some say it's not the quantity of life but the quality. Just make good use of the time left.

stay positive, not that's it a good comparison but a friends wife after being repeatedly misdiagnosed with "urinary tract infections" finally got a doctor that actually did their job. she was told the cancer was stage three and inoperable, it sounded pretty grim. she ended up getting chemo and radiation which shrank it to the point they could operate. that was at least five years ago and she's doing fine now.

cancer is never good news but compared to years past they've made some pretty good progress against it overall

Gusteve - don't give up! My sis in law was diagnosed at Christmastime with inoperable pancreatic and liver cancers. They gave her 30-60 days at that time. She got a second opinion and began treatment at the Cancer Centers of America (she goes from Toledo to Zion, Il one week a month). She is getting stronger, her cancer indicator number yesterday was 949 (started out at nearly one million 6 months ago, 35 is cancer-free). The aggressive treatment is not what is practiced in normal hospitals and tagets the affected organs only. She hasn't even lost any hair.

My point here is to please don't resign yourself to this and that you speak with these people soon. They have taken our family from hopeless to looking forward to tomorrow. You will be in our family's thoughts and prayers.

What sad news. I'm also 51. My thoughts are with you. I also believe that your attitude and will to survive are the most important things. Research the best doctors/hospitals to utilize. I am hopeful you will be one of those miracle survivors that talks about your cancer scare well into the future.

I've been hearing this far too often of late, and have buried 3 friends in the last year alone.

The only thing I can offer (beyond my family sending our positive energy your way) is get you affairs in order, then make the most of your time! That time can be much longer then "they" say, so plan in that direction instead!

One friend was given 2-3 months, and she just plain refused to believe that, and tried a natural garlic plan. She went into complete remission and had another 6 fantastic, illness-free years, before it came back with a vengeance and took her. 6 healthy years is much better than 2-3 months! Mind over matter works!

I noticed, noticed a few others as well. I'm sorry to hear about the cancer. I'll keep my 'puters working on cancer research and donate to cancer.org when I can. Hang in there.

You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers, Steve. Be aggressive with the treatment. As Shoozy mentioned, I have often wondered about the Cancer Center (lost my Mom to cancer 2 yrs. ago today). Be strong and have faith.

You know we do a big fundraiser each year for pancreatic cancer research and if means anything to you there are lots of us out there in your corner doing our best to find a cure.

Good luck!!

Wow... I'm in the same age group (50) my biggest fear is Pancreatic Cancer (diabetic here).

Stay strong... get things done the way you want them to be. Get aggressive with the treatments and know there are people thinking of you.

All the best....

Sorry to hear that Steve. Maybe you may want to try to contact fellow Mopar enthuiest/collector Steven Juliano,as he was also diagnosed with the same problem a few years back. He may have some information about treatment for this disease. Good luck, Pete.

Best wishes on your fight. Mopars and Mopar guys are a unique breed, so you should explain to the docs that those percentages are for 'normal' people, and you will beat them every time!

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Keep your chin up. I knew a guy that had really bad brain cancer. He was given less than a year. He lived almost 10 additional years, went through several brain surgeries, and walked through it with tremendous grace and faith. You can do it.

Man, that sucks. Sorry to read this. It just seems so common these days that everyone has some sort of cancer. I am just outside of Detroit so I am not that far away, if you need a hand with anything or need help with working on the Charger just let me know.

Keep your chin held high. A positive additude can and will go a long way.

If you let it get 'to' you,
It will 'take' you.

Something in the news today, don't know how relevant it might be:

If it can be made to work it sounds preferable to chemo and radiation.

Don't forget the Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN, not far from you.

We have a friend also at 51 diagnosed with pancreatic cnacer, he is in a trial at Mass General in Boston and so far going well. They are using drug treatments versus operations. He was originally diagnosed with liver cancer but that turned out to be more a symptom (lesions on the liver) of the pancreatic cancer.

Good luck, hoping for the best.

Natural garlic plan? What is that? My best friend's girlfriend was diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer (at 32...) and they're looking into any and all "non-traditional" methods of curing cancer. Any further info? Thanks...

Wow Steve!
The level tone of your post tells me you've processed the initial shock - Man, that's gotta be a huge bitter pill to swallow.. But it shows you've got a strong mind, a good attitude and I wish you and yours the best going forward through the treatment and whatnot.

It can suck not having someone to talk with (not telling colleagues yet, etc.). So I'm sure everyone agrees that we are here for you anytime.
Best to you,
-Art

Attitude is everything when fighting cancer, don't give up!

A friend of my mother was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and given less than 6 months to live, back in 1992. Twenty years later, she's still here!

Keep us posted on your treatment, and we'll keep you and yours in our thoughts and prayers. Hang tough!

If you want to fly to ny and see what the pancreas center at columbia has to offer i can get you an appointment in no time. all you have to do is ask. you need to find out 100000% if you really are inoperable. i will pm you my direct phone numbers. please google the pancreas center at columbia medical center in ny. i am on their site under stories of hope. dont waste time.

Steve, definitely listen to Steven, as most people know he has personal experience in dealing with this.

Stay positive and fight.

Difficult disease to fight, but it can be beat.

Best of luck, you're in my thoughts.

Inoperable Pancreatic Cancer.

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family. My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the doctors have ruled out chemo or any further treatment. In fact, they won't tell any of us (the family) the severity of the cancer or how much time he has. They pretty much have sent him home to finish his days here. It kills me to see him go from piddling out in the garage 2 months ago to being confined to a bed at home not having the stength to do anything now. Him & mom's positive attitude is the only thing that is keeping him going.

If you are still able to function day-to-day, live your life to the fullist ! Don't get depressed & carry a positive attitude.

I was 49 and given a very similar verdict.
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and only chance to survive was a stem cell transplant from a related or closely matched donor (neither was available). I ended up being an experiment having a transplant using my own cells.
I hear you on getting things in order, I even asked a couple members here to help my wife sell our car if I was no longer around. I sold off several of my "possessions". Some I wish I neved did.
I received cutting edge treatment at ucsf and am here today because of it.
I'm not suggesting making any changes in your treatment, but I can say from experience, buy into Doctors you feel comfortable with and let them do their work and do exactly what they tell you to do.
Most importantly fight for your life. I did not accept that I had no hope. I fought all the way and now am closing in five years out from my sct.
Every day is a great day. Remember that.
Hang in there Steve!

Fight like hell. My sis-in-law just came through breast cancer. Attitude to carry the day! So sorry to hear, but you are too young to go out like this. Fight.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I live nearby in Grand Blanc. Just recently saw this post and sent Steve a PM letting him know I'm available if he needs anything. I don't know him, so I don't really know his wishes as far as disclosing information, but I assume he would let the Moparts brethren know if there is additional info. If I hear anything and he doesn't have a problem with my broadcasting it, I will pass it along.

As some have said, I am not sure what to say? I can only pray for you and your Family going foward. I too would like you to fight as hard as possible and also spend every moment possible with your entire Family. Please know that although we do know know each other My Family and I will pray for You and Your's.

Thank the good lord for the 51 years you have had and maybe 51 more.

Good Luck and God Bless,

Hello all!

I have not been on the board or checking PM's or emails for nearly a month. I am truly grateful at the amount of support I saw this morning from everyone.

I had a pretty good couple weeks, with a minor set-back earlier this week. Bought the family a nice new loaded pop-up camper. (Slide out, inside shower and bathroom, the works). It came with a built in car stereo, so the first thing I did was throw it out, install a nice new head unit, subwoofer, new speakers and some power amps. The wife was NOT happy about that. And it has taken far longer to install it than it would have in the past. (I should have it finished today, just in time to blow all the fuses in the 12v system, probably).

Anyway, my plan was to spend some quality time camping with the family. They used to camp all the time, but I was "too busy" working, and they'd go by themselves. I'm really liking the idea of spending some quality time in the woods with my wife and kids.

Unfortunately, I keep running in random health issues that interfere with my camping plans, but darn it, I'm going camping one way or the other. Michigan is just beautiful this time of year.

I'll get an updated prognosis in about a week. FWIW, when I was first diagnosed the Docs were pretty adamant that I would not be around even now. I recall thinking that I wouldn't be able to see the Olympics (not that I usually watch it, but it became the principle of the thing.)

So tonight, I'll watch the opening ceremonies, HAH - take that, cancer.

My next goals are:
experience fall in Michigan one last time.
Be around to see who gets elected.
Be around to see if the Mayans were right.
Be around to see my Handicap license tag expire in January.

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and prayers. I'll be following up on the emails and PM's I've received.

Glad to hear you have a positive outlook!

Dont forget to add "Visit the MPM clubhouse" to your fun list!

steve, just seen the posts, and man,..i will be praying for you. i also have cancer, and fought it for 10+ yrs now.please seek as much info as you can,and be open to different hospitals, and or doctors if you dont feel comfortable.i went to UofM,and have been pleased so far.my tumors are on,and in the liver, and are not removable.keep your chin up,and try to enjoy yourself, and it sounds like you are.the main thing that got me though the years of cancer, and sickness,is JESUS!...i have a great church family, and it also made my wife and me much closer....so please let us know what we can do for you,and keep us posted...mike

And how could I forget:

I plan on participating in the Flint "Back to the Bricks" thing in mid-august. Its an extension of the Woodward Cruise.

Look for my black 68 Charger with a red stripe.

And now that my Docs have 100% released me from low-fat diet restrictions, I'm thinking of having an Angelo's Coney Dog this weekend. Livin' Large!

Steve, thank you so much for checking in. We have never met or really interacted, but I think of you and your family often. That picture of your 68 is badass so it stands out for me.

I am glad to see that you are taking time with family and keeping a positive view. I really don't know how I would do it. Michigan is amazing this time of year (at least it was when I was there in June 2003) so enjoy my friend!

Gus, it's great to hear from you again.

I think your goals are missing a few things.
What about the Mopar Nats in 2013?
Cruising Woodward in 2014.
Hot Rod Power Tour in 2015.
Hanging out at Stu's bar in 2016.

I think you get the point. Still, aiming for the new year is a good starting point.

I like the fact you have plan, its reasonable, its realistic, and its yours. Good luck, there are a lot peolple pulling for you.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
