That block was cast in October of 69 and the car it went into was a 1970 model year car.

Engines for the next model year were cast as early as July of the year before (July 1969 casting for a 1970 car). The latest engine I've ever owned was cast in June of its model year.

The letter on the ID pad (in this case F) determines what model year the engine was slated for.

F is the series (model year) 1970.

The 1970 model year ran from August 1, 1969 through July 31, 1970.

If you know the VIN on the block one of us may be able to narrow down what type of car it came from for you.

It is from a 1970 Challenger, but I have not heard of the matching car.

Once a batch of blocks were cast, they were used until they were gone. It didn't matter what year vehicle or type of vehicle they went into. Could have been a pickup, car, boat, or something else. Each was built and stamped at assembly for the particular year it ended up in. When the partial VIN stamping started, the particular car also.

I was told back in the early 1970s that Mopar would cast a bunch of blocks and store them outside for a period of time to let them age before machining them

Hard to build a 70 model year car in august 1969 without an engine... Unless you could cast them on Jan 1 and time machine them back a few months...

Cars for the 1970 model year started appearing in delaer lots around Sept 1 1969.

You are both in Ontario Canads. You both joined on November 20th...be it 3 tears apart. Too many coincidences there for it to be too far away. I'd try contacting PatBee383. I know I don't have it...

CabBarge,

That is true but it was primarily done with Hemi blocks.

Model year production started on August 1st so they would need blocks, heads and manifolds cast before that.
I've found number matching 440 blocks cast in 69 through 71 model year.

Since it's not a "HP" engine it is from a C-body - C, D, or F is the missing digit.
