Someone must have got to him...check out the latest modification to the ad:
This is not a numbers matching car nor am I trying to sell it as one.Anyone that thinks they can build a car of this caliber cheaper please find a car and GOOD LUCK !!! I know what I have and what I have spent so if you are interested in a EXTREMELY NICE CAR here it is.If you have comments keep them to yourself or go buy that all original car that everyone THINKS they have or can get so cheap !!!! Please dont waist my time with lowball offers. My Buy it Now isnt far off. This isn"t a car thrown together for a quick sale nor do I need to sell it.The build costs are more than I have it priced and its a very fresh resto. After this add ends there will be no more chances because I'm going to KEEP it and drive it EVERYDAY the roads are not wet.
That would have been me. hehehe I emailed him and told him that was a lot of money for a rebodied car and that that vin.fender tag and title was sold on ebay in 2008. He wasn't very happy with me. But that is a lot of money for what it is.

I see strong evidence that this car is a rebody, but I don't see clear evidence that he did it or knew about it. It's entirely possible he knew he wanted a 70 Challenger, started collecting parts (none of us have ever bought parts for a car we didn't own, right? ), and then bought the car somewhere, either as a pile of parts or as a project that had already been rebodied. His aggravated response could be expected if anonymous people began telling him that he and/or his car was a fraud.

I reported it to a couple folks in law enforcement I know. The information was passed on to one of their agents. The only other detail I know so far is that they are trying to ID the donor body. If the original body stamps are there that should not take long.

Good job!!!
What's unfortunate - is, who knows what will happen to the car once it does get impounded .. hopefully it doesn't get destroyed... it was clean looking.

Great job.
I have a feeling we will see the car again with a state issued VIN at a much lower price.
as a lifetime Mopar fanatic.....it just nauseates me to no end about all of the fraud out there! There are so many shady @##$%^&'# that knowingly do this stuff everyday and you really have to know what to look for or know someone who knows what to look for so the buyer doesn't get taken for a bad ride!

Could you title it with the factory body numbers if it wasn't stolen? Glad it is getting resolved and hopefully nobody lost money without the knowledge.
I think it depends on what state has what rules?? I have a Challenger with an Arizona state issued plate and they stamped the original VIN on it.
