Saw DA at Clay City Ky Sat nite. He was there with his sons ex pro stock quick 16 firebird. Didn't bother him but cool to see probably the best Mopar pro stock racer ever behind Ronnie Sox!

No, his son Chase was driving. He was holding down a lawn chair like me. Still one of my favorites all time.

He is a nice man talked to a long time one year at Brainerd. Don't remember much about the conversation except he was gracious with his time and seemed to just want shoot the breeze for a bit. I really enjoyed watching him race.

What was I thinking....

Met him years ago at a Northern Nationals at Milan Dragway - our local school had won the High School Nationals and it had been set up for us to meet the Dodge Boys. Alderman was a pretty nice guy to talk to; very personable. Geoffrion seemed to be bothered by the whole thing, to the point that he made an off handed comment to one of the Mopar reps there about being paid for the autographs he was signing. Alderman heard it and pointed out to him that since we had bought the stuff at the Mopar table, we had allready helped pay his salary for the day. Geoffrion got pizzed and went back in the motorhome while Alderman stayed for quite a while and talked to us and the students.
I still have the Dodge Boys plate they signed - it's on loan to my friend Rob Eppler for the front of his 65 Dart.

When Darrel was on probation he was doing community service. I don't remember where we were when my wife asked if he could give a talk at my sons school since my boys were into the cars at a young age. Dave Hutchins flew him up from Kentucky to Michigan. He did a presentation at my sons grade school class. He did a very nice job.
A long way to come for one grade school class. I was impressed.

thats what Im saying the hemi. it was so bad they made rules to try to beat it when that did not work they outlawed it. both NHRA and NASCAR did they want the ford and chevys to win. well GM and Ford sold more cars thus more fans so yes that was the plan. what a shame.

Seem to remember a meeting allegedly taking place in the early 60's (?)with a sanctioning body (NASCAR?) and select racers, and the consensus was to promote the Ford vs. Chevrolet rivalry. By the late 60's, it didn't appear to be working very well. "If you can't beat them, outlaw them".

i still wish they would of kept the max wedge port for the non hemi owners. imagin what the 440 sixpack would of done max wedge port flowing heads for a stock showroom car. we would all of had better stock heads if that would of happened and not kill the wedge for the hemi.

that is what happened, the ford and gm was going to get out of Pro Stock Im thinking and so came the rules. Im guessing it was 73 when the outlaw of the hemi came to pro stock

I have a Dodge Boys ( D.A, and S.G. ) plate hanging in my trailer, I agree he was a great driver, but Don Carlton was a good driver and innovator/engineer/car builder etc. he didn`t just drive.
