I just had my exhaust manifold glass-bead blasted and would like to put a high-temp paint or coating on it to prevent rust. Is there some easy & effective treatment I can apply myself, or would it be better to have it professionally done? Thanks for all replies.

Roger

Eastwood's seams to hold up better than most.

Probably not the best thing out there, but I blasted mine with aluminum oxide and then painted them with stove black...

DIY, Rust.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

You should try a ceramic coating - you can do it yourself (it sprays or brushes on) and withstands 2000F. There are several places that sell a variety of colors (cast iron, black, flat, white, chrome, blue, etc.). Although I have yet to use this - I plan to. Here is a place I found where you can buy the supplies: Columbia Coatings

Just go to the Ceramic section. I am sure there are other places out there that sell this stuff.

You may have an issue with your glass beading - might not give sufficient "bite" for the paint to adhere too.

I've had good luck with Eastwood's coating... make sure you don't skimp on prep work. I had mine sandblasted and then sprayed with a cleaner (can't recall the name, but it was similar to brake cleaner....nasty stuff).

I used VHT manifold paint and it works pretty good.

I used eastwoods over 2 years ago and I drive this car regularly. Has held up very well. I did have them blasted first.

There is one very small spot where I see rust coming through. but it's so small and has not spread. Im thinking about sanding it down and touching it up.

Another vote for eastwoods. Mine is holding for 12+ years.

I'm very happy with the results I got from POR 15 exhaust coating. I have about 2000 miles on mine and they look much better than my friend's manifolds with the Eastwood stuff on them, but I don't know if he did the prep work correctly. I'll try to remember to post a pic tomorrow.

I finally made it to the end of the rainbow. Murphy was standing there to tell me that the pot of gold was at the other end.

Results will be much much better on a beefy iron manifold than a set of tube headers. I have found the BBQ paints hold up as well as the VHT stuff on exhaust parts.

Keep old mopars alive.
