Trucks with extended cab spit drive shaft and 4X4 trucks with divorced transfer cases. RV but then you will run into the E brake on the transmission tail.
Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks.
But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

I saw one once in, beleave it or not, a street sweeper. It had a 318 to run the truck with a very short tail(about 6 or 8 inches) with no brake on the end. Look for an industral or truck application in the salvage yards.

The factory short tails use a fixed yoke instead of a slip yoke, so provisions need to be made in the driveline to allow movement.
Most are about 5" shorter than the standard passenger car housing.

I have a 904 for mockup and it is perfect @ 4'' shorter than the 727,but I wanted to use the 727 I have because it is fresh and the 904 needs to be redone and a new converter
It would have to come all apart to put the tail shaft and housing on anyway.
