Saw Don out at RT66 yesterday, some friends were pitted across from him.
Car came back from the 1st round on the rollback. Gasket blew out on the oil filter and Don got in his oil and scuffed the wall pretty good.
He was fine, all the safety equipment worked like it was supposed to. Wall saved the car from going over, and there was no fire.

Sorry to hear that. Give him my regards please Dennis. I raced last Friday and Saturday nights at Firebird ( yes, it was hot ) and didn't have very good outings ether. Went out first round both nights. I'm having major problems with this detroit locker I am using. I have some good video of burnouts and launches where both tires aren't locked up - at least not initially. It's making for goofy ( can't keep the car straight ) burnouts and inconsistant ET's. Had the starter pooping in his pants once. Gonna put my rebuilt clutch unit back in this week. Might have to try some spider gear welding soon. How's the wiring coming along?

Will do John. Hope you get yours straightened out. Al, yes it is. Don't think he hurt the motor, but not sure. John, I've been racing my AWD Dakota. Hook is not an issue.

I hate to hear these things about ANY racer and what the hell`s going on w/oil filter gasket blowouts lately...........I run the K&N`s and I OVER tighten em and they don`t even so much as weep oil......
Filters need to be more than hand tight imo.
Then it might be a good idea to switch to a aftermarket filter like a Oberg or a Filter One that is made a little better.

Well if you give it a 1/2 turn after contact thats .031 compression of the rubber gasket... thats ALOT... what I have seen in some of the filters is the lip or bump in the metal isnt much and the compression of the rubber will start to push the gasket out if the outer lip isnt big enough(out side lip od the gasket area)... if the oil pressure is 80# that lip should be plenty... if its over 100# it might not be enough to hold the gasket

There is a big disparity in filter quality - but then there always has been. If you have ever actually cut some appart and compared things like wall thickness, base plate thickness, crimp quality, filter media, visual flow paths, base gasket retention, you would be shocked at the quality differences amongst some name brands. If you are not paying over $10 for your oil filters, you are buying junk - in most cases. They will usually work fine in your normal every day driver though - maybe only one out of ten will leak I like Moroso, K&N, Mobile 1, to name a few quality oil filters. There are still no guarantees when you run high oil pressure.

Thanks to all you fellow racers for concerns for Don. My name is Dave and I am the wrench for the Barracuda Boys. Yes it was a bad weekend;Saturdays race, win a round, burn the trans up. We thrash to remove it, go to CRT for a replacement(Thanks Big John),Re-install, fire up at 11 at night and put in the trailer. Good to go and confident! Sunday off the trailer 9.17@144...Hot Damn! First round, well Don is ok and Barracuda will be back! You can count on it! As far as the oil filter, it was an aftermarket canister type with removable screen assembly. Didn't like from the beginning...too small;will not be going back on.

this is 100% true! it's amazing what is (and what is not) in some filters.
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

That really sucks. Sorry to hear about the damage, glad he's ok. The car can be fixed.
