i want to remove my stock three spoke vinyl steering wheel on my 72 satellite and put on a tuff wheel. i know i have to get the threespoke horn "button" off the to get to the center nut which holds the steering wheel to the column. the thing is, i don't know how to get the horn button off. do i just have to pull it off with brute force?

Not sure about yours, but they usually twist off in some manner.

Is it the three spoke wheel that has a horn button in each spoke?

Do you have a pic of your wheel or a pic that looks like your wheel?

I wouldn't mind knowing this myself...I have the same wheel (three spoke, horn buttens on the outer edges, Plymouth emblem in the center).

Well, the one you described Eric, the plastic piece in the center between the horn buttons snaps out. Its not the big plastic piece that the horn buttons set into. The snaps are out towards the horn buttons. Once you get one started the remaining two come out fairly easy.

I have this wheel over in storage. Maybe I can get it later and take a few pics of just what I mean.

satilite,
that'd be great. i think i know what you mean with your description, but as always, a picture says more than 1000 words.

OK, here's some pics.......

This is the stock wheel for my wagon, I assume you have the same

You first need to remove just the center part with the emblem

The center piece 'just' snaps in place. May take some force, but don't use too much as the tab(s) may break

To remove the full center piece to gain more access, remove these three screws

Clear enough? The thin grip drove me nuts, so I replaced the wheel with this wheel off a '77 Fury

Its not as thick as a tuff wheel, but it is easier to grip and is a little smaller in diameter too. Its a simple a cheap alternative to the stock skinny wheel.

Hope this helps.

Yeah baby, thats what I'm talking about! I just want to take it apart to clean the inside of any 30+ year old funk that may have found its way in there.
