There are some good 318 builders on the site... I'm not one of them but I remember the guideline not to overcam a 318 for best performance. With 230@.050 intake duration, I guess the engine will be lazy until 3500+ RPM. You would need a lot more stall to get decent acceleration. I'm thinking 210 to 220@.050 max. with your setup.

Look at whatever cam catalog you have decided to use. Go clear to the bottom of the list where the biggest and baddest cams live. Look at them, don't buy them. work your way up the list. Its OK to close your eyes and imagine what they would sound like but don't buy them. When you get to the one that looks too small but says it will work in a 318 truck, BUY IT.

That's too funny! Also true. Just throw a small RV cam into that 318 and save your money for a big block. Street car no need to go big. Strip car can be peaky but a 318 strip engine will not be what you want on the street. I loved my 318 with just a stock cam and 3.55 gears.

Well,I already had the heads for a previous 360 i had to sell, only had a 318 left, and a sb 727 already built and 8.75 getting ready to go in,so i had to build with what i had.Yeah the 360 wasn,t mild by no means but had alot of torque but had to sell to catch up on some bills.Never even got to hear it run.318 has no torque with what ever cam i run.But i kept brand new eddie heads and airgap intake.Which i figure i stay in XE268 or XS268 cam. This 318 ran pretty good for what it was which was ld340 intake,360 jheads with 1.88/1.60 valve,8.1 comp and stock 340 cam but now it's different animal! With a 2800 stall that already have and 4.56 gears.I miss that little 360 with kb107 pistons,XS274 cam with 502/511 lift and Hbeam rods.Would've had 10.8 comp with 450hp and some torque to go with it but lets see what that 318 gonna do!

Alright,Went to Hensley Performance today and got some good news. Was gonna pay to have my crank done but Ken made deal with me and now have 4.00 inch crank going in.Paid for the crank and block work and He said with my truck, the 318/392 is gonna be better package and it is gonna stay hydraulic and cam is gonna be XE275HL with 231/237@50 and 525/525 lift which will work with my convertor and gonna run 4.10 gear!So now i will have the torque back!So go back in two weeks pay for eagle ibeam rods and the pistons is gonna be KB Icon dished pistons, still have 9.7 comp!

Take Ken's advice. If he says run it then judt do it.I would consider a different converter while you have it apart.Don't know much about Boss Hogg but I would reckon they are cheap and have some slippage.
