Ok here is the deal. You answered allot of questions for me. You are hitting that tire too hard with out any shock control. That napa shock is not doing you any good.... You have to get adjustables. We have been playing with caltracs for several years and found how important it is in the set up with shocks. We have a 3600 lb max wedge car that has 1.27 in 60's on 10.5 tire and 4.10 gears. We run the tires at 13.5 lbs. So I think there is allot of room there for better launch and better tire longevity and probably more consistant 60's. You have been controling traction with low tire pressure to make up for what the shock needs to be doing.

Jake, Thanks to the info. I’ll have to look into a set of adjustable shocks for the rear. Problem is this is a fabricated rear suspension so I need to measure the shock length and see if I can fine an adjustable shock the proper length. What brand adjustable shocks do you recommend?

Scatpack1, like Brian said they run Friday and Saturday night, gates open at 5:00, T&T at 6:00. Sunday Gates open at Noon.

Jake, I have to bars in the bottom hole, with about ½ turn of preload on the right and one flat on the left. I adjust them one flat at a time until the car launches straight. Shocks are heavy duty NAPA shock. Yea I know adjustable are better but these work.

Jamsec, I only use my gauge to check tire pressure. There is just too much difference between gauges. I’m anal about tire pressure.

Mike I only change 1/8 psi at a time. I also check tire pressure before each pass. I normally pick up ½ each pass the first couple passes, then maybe 1/8 as the tires stabilize, then after the sun goes down and the temperature drops late in the evening I have to start adding air.

Thumperdart, I agree it looks funky but it seems to be working.

Same thing here Russ... all day long I keep letting
out pressure then in the evening I might have to add
a little each round... I just air them up a bit high
before I head to the lanes then set it up there

We have used them on some of my customers cars and had good results but for my car and Lens car we use revalved double adjustables front and rear.

Per Jake’s suggestion I installed a set of Rancho 9 way adjustable shocks on Da Beast this week. I took it to T&T tonight to dial them and the tire pressure in. I set the shocks on 8, Calvert racing recommends 6 to 9 for foot brake. Tire pressure was 9.75 psi on the first pass. Sixty foot was 1.497, the tires bit hard for an instant then the suspension unloaded and the tires spun. My sixty foot time with the old shocks and 7.75 psi tire pressure were in the 1.40 to 1.44 range.

Second pass I left the shocks set at 8 and lowered the tire pressure to 9.5 psi and the sixty dropped to 1.487. The tires bit then the suspension unloaded and I went into tire spin.

Third pass I left the tire pressure at 9.5 and set the shocks at 7, the sixty dropped again to 1.452. The suspension is still unloading causing tire spin.

Fourth pass I lowered the psi to 9.0, sixty foot went to 1.448, but the suspension is still unloading and causing tire spin.

Fifth pass shocks are still set at 7 but tire pressure is now 8.75. Sixty went to 1.454 and it is still unloading the suspension and spinning.

Pass six I set the shocks at six and left the tires at 8.75 psi. Sixty went to 1.425. The suspension didn’t unload and she stayed hooked.

Pass seven I kept the shocks at 6 and upped the tire pressure to 9.0. The suspension didn’t unload but I had tire spin and sixty went to 1.436.

Pass eight and nine shocks are still set at six and dropped the tire pressure 8.5 psi. The sixty foots were 1.426 and 1.423 respectively. Now we’re getting someplace.

On the last pass just to see what would happen I set the shocks at five and upped the tire pressure to 9.0. The sixty went to 1.45 and I had tire spin.

It looks like the car likes the shocks set at six and 8.5 PSI tire pressure. Tomorrow I’ll try the tires at 8.25 psi. The tires aren’t wadding up like they were in the picture with the old shocks and 7.75 PSI in the tires.

All and all it was a great night of T&T to dial in Da Beast's new adjustable shocks. One more thing the car doesn’t wheel stand like did with the old shocks. It still wheel stands put not as violent or high as it did before.

Just out of curiousity have you UPPED the tire pressures like past 10 psi and up?

No not yet. I'm going back to the track to night for more T&T. I know there are better sixty foots there, I just need to find the sweet spot.

A few people that know more than me about hookin have suggested that I UP the pressure instead of lowering it like my dumb ass has done in the past and SLOWED down...........
