its throwing out metal shavings and wont keep my battery charged over 10.3 volts wich means i have to jump start it or keep it on the charger everytime i need to start it.

so.... since i didnt buy this alternator, and it came with the car, and its obviously not factory, how do i go about replacing it with something that will bolt up?

here is a picture, i hope someone can help me.

and another

i had to leave the car at a family members house because i was afraid of draining the battery too low. if my distributor doesnt get 10V or more it stops working (unilite)

theirs one wire that comes out of the alternator, but there is also a 'box' connected to the back with i believe 2 or 3 more wires that branch of to different places on the alternator only

guess lets start over.

you just want something to bolt in place of it? or do you want to replace it with exactly the same thing?

can you get pics of the back of it?

do you know how your charging system is wired?

cant get pics, but the back has a regulator box, and a few wires coming out of it. its a single wire.

im looking at summits site for alternators and found what appears to be the exact one i have but with a single groove pulley.

however, it appears that it mounts up like any other alternator summit sells for the 340 plymouth and so i think ill try a summit brand alternator since this thing has approx 250 miles on it before eating itself appart. not very tuff stuff....

well my point was you can save a few bucks depending on how your charging system is wired up now.
a parts store square back should bolt up and if you order the later version will give you 78 amps. 55 bucks for the 88 fifth ave alt.

if you don't have a vr, you can add it pretty quickly to your system for another 20 bucks and some wire and be done.

plus it's a better system than a 1 wire alt

That looks like a regular, but chromed, dual field Mopar alternator.
I've got 2 of them aswell with the 'one-wire conversion', only not chromed.
Just hook it up with a nice thick wire and you're done.

Coincidentally one of my alternators ate it's rear bearing (also?).

If you want to replace it with a regular (dual field / Squareback) alternator, you'll need to install a matching (later style) remote voltage regulator.
