hi there my 77 dodge street van 318 auto , has an edelbrock sp2p intake and carb !! just started it for the first time this year and it has a miss when in gear and is really sluggish so i did a compression check all is good 125 to 130 psi , plugs look okay , checked the timing it was around 10 !!! so i advanced the timing and the missing went away motor picked right up runs a lot better but cant see the mark on the balancer at all !! climbed under van and checked timing and the mark on the balancer was at around 10 oclock lookin from the front so i have no idea could the timing chain have jumped a gear ??? thanks mike

Outer ring on the balancer may have slipped , if the chain jumped I think you would bend valves .

Dumb question but I gotta ask. Are you positive you have the pickup on the #1 plug wire?

I'd set the initial at 15 & see how it runs (plug the vac adv line 1st). If 15 ain't enough then I'd start from scratch & find exact TDC & go from there
