My Roadruner was hit hard (side + front) 13 yrs ago, but I drove the car home with no problem.
The repairs are done & A-833 and new Hays just went back in. The trans is in neutral (driveshaft turns) and I adjusted the shifter & clutch linkages.
When I tested the feel of the shifter I realized that 1-2 shift lever won't move! 3-4 and Reverse move just fine.
I thought maybe rust was the problem & used a ton of PB Blaster, disconnected the linkage & gave the 1-2 shift lever a good smack with a hammer (both directions) to break it free but it won't budge in either direction.
What's going on & what should I do? I've waited 13 yrs to drive this car and I "thought" I'd have it on the road this weekend....HELP!
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Problem is probably with the side cover... Possibly the interlock is rusted & won't move locking the shift lever... Drain the trans & pull the cover, if the shifter arms move normally look at the slider & see if it moves....

First make sure reverse is not engaged , completely disengaged , it won't shift 1-2 if reverse is engaged or partly engaged.
Next loosen the side cover bolts first and tap the cover up and see if that fixes it , if not then do as said above .

Thanks guys.... What is the "interlock"? Is that the shaft that goes through the side cover and ends with the threaded stud where you bolt on the shift levers? What is the "slider"? Is that the ring that the shift-forks move inside the trans? With the trans in the car, if I pull the cover off what is a good way to line it up to put it back on? It looks like the shift forks will move around making that difficult? Stupid question...How can I make SURE the trans is not in reverse? With the car in the air I can grab the driveshaft & turns the wheels by hand. What does loosening & tapping the cover up do? I REALLY appreciate your help! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

Found the problem. The trans was not COMPLETELY out of reverse. I moved the reverse shift lever over just a hair and the 1-2 shift lever moves freely. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/punkrocka.gif) Thanks Moparts!
