Finally a HUSKER again
Im rebuilding a 400 BB for a customer and he wants a hydraulic roller cam so he dosnt have to add crap to the oil, and wants the added benefits of a roller cam. I cant seem to find a package for the retro fit. Ive looked on summit, jegs, comp, and cranes web sites. I see howards makes a cam, havent seen a package deal yet, am I going to have to piece the parts out otherwise.

I don't know about a package. But I bought the comp cam hydraulic roller. 286hr I believe. Also went with Scorpion lifters. As I heard a few people having problems with the comp cam ones. I was going to give the Hughes lifters a try. But after buying the Scorpions I'm glad I went that way. Nice looking pieces.

Scorpion huh? ill check into them. This is going to be a basic street car build, cast pistons, mild compression, yada yada yada. But where the guy lives he dosnt have access to any aditives so I figured this was the best way to go.

where did ya get the scorpion lifters?

Nope. You can either make and/or order whatever pushrods you need.

Here's a complete set from Lunati, cam, lifters, springs, retainers, locks, stem seals, cam drive

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LUNATI-383-440-M...b14&vxp=mtr

I bought a similar complete set, but with a hotter cam from Lunati for a 440 that I just rebuild and there is now a huge difference in behaviour of that engine compared to the last set up where i used a hydraulic flat tappet cam.
Similar roller idles smoother, has better vacuum and pulls much harder.

The next engine that I will rebuild, will get a roller cam too. The only disadvantage is a little bit higher price.

Hughes Engines should be able to sell you a complete package. Don't forget, you'll also need a thrust button of some sort.

What heads are you going to use ? What is the definition of mild compression ?

Also a bronze oil pump drive gear and shorter pushrods and probably an adjustable valvetrain.
