Neat car! I hope for your sake the rear flares are on top of the quarters. That would be great as the quarters look to be in great shape rust wise. If you get a chance to post the fender tag I would love to see it. I'm sure since mines done I could help with the parts cause to. With the pictures you posted, all the exterior parts (bumpers, grills, side markers, etc.) look great. Nice find Scott

Hello sixpack rt, Beautiful R/T you have !!!!! I don't know why but the 70s look killer with the dog dishes. Yeah the flares are over the quarters. And the quarters look good underneath. I'm really hoping they will be usable. I really don't think I'm missing much part wise. I do need to round up some exhaust manifolds. But that shouldn't be to hard. I already put the 440 hood emblems back on as well as the correct hood pin kit. Here is the fender tag. A low option car. Good luck with the project.. IMO, it's not an attractive custom job. Thats just my view, so take it for what its worth. Id tear it right down and get it back to factory specs. Would be a real stunner all done up!! I dont need to tell you how rare the 70 V code R/T's are you already know that I am sure. Here is a pic of my black 4 speed V code R/T for inspiration. Mine is supposed to have 15" black steelies and dogdishes, I like the look too! Keep us updated. MB

Bottom line...it's his car and he can do what he wants to with it. I simply stated my opinion. The resto everything crowd is always on my case because I enjoy day two rides. People wonder why younger are not into Mopars? How about...those are the wrong fan belts! Your car isn't worthy to be parked next to mine I could go on but I will leave it at that... What I stated above is an opinion. Relax guys! I know '70 Coronet R/T's are not common. It is a generalization to say there are lots of restored to stock Mopar stuff out there. Because there is... If you narrow every option down, there are quite a few one of xx or xx amounts of with this or that.

- Yes it is his to do what he wishes.
- I have no problem with "day 2" rides or the people that like them - though this is a period custom IMO, not "day 2" which I take to mean some period aftermarket goodies like carb, intake, headers, wheels and tires, etc.
I'm a "live and let live" kinda guy, but the whole "stock cars are boring" thing is annoying to me. I mean, really?? The whole REASON that we love these cars is that they were ANYTHING but boring. I just don't get how multi carbed, hi impact paint, huge scoops, pistol grips, high impact colors and bold in-your-face graphics can be considered boring. Around here, I'm extremely lucky to spot ANY 1960's car and it's usually a red "pro-touring" '69 Camaro or some such thing (yawn). Maybe some of you are used to seeing rare Mopar muscle cruising around everyday; if so, I envy you.
I'm not against day 2, modified or custom cars though I freely admit that modifieds are not my thing, especially the modern touches. Some period customs are very cool (think Choppintime's 'Cuda), but I don't PERSONALLY care for the paint and body mods on this Coronet. To each their own.
There seems to be growing anti-resto sentiment from both the modified as well as the "drive a beater" crowd that I don't quite get. Perhaps you or others have been treated badly by the "resto crowd" and all I can say is that I'm the last guy to rag on anyone's ride no matter what I think of it.
Anyhow, I'm trying to explain my thoughts, not rant at you and I am certainly not upset or excited. At the end of the day, the OP himself said he thought the flares and paint were horrible and was looking forward to getting the car back to a factory look in FC7. A bunch of people expressed the expected "leave it alone" opinion and I was simply trying to assure him that not everyone has that sentiment and there is nothing wrong with the idea of putting the car back to stock. Not all old customs are worth keeping.

I stick by what I said earlier.... drive it the way it is for the summer while gathering parts then pull it apart in the fall/winter. Best of both worlds... Bryan

Hello guys, thanks for the comments and thank you very much DPelletier for the WOM. Right now I'm going to keep the car the way it is. Not because it's growing on me. But because I want to make sure I can afford to do it and do it right before it gets taken apart. I knew when I bought this car it would be a while before I could get to it. For now I'm going to get it running good. (needs a good tune up after sitting so long) So I can do some cruising and just enjoy the car. And hopefully it will be off to a good body shop in the near future. Thanks again
Nothing wrong with that
I side with DP on this..A car this rare should be put back to OE. It just makes the most sense. They built countless /6 and 318 car swhich you can do anything you want with. With only 97 made and who knows how many left, it stands to reason that would be the best course of action. Of course, it's YOUR car and if you wanted to put a small block Chevy in it and paint it Chartreuse that would be your right to do so. Its just my opinion to go back to stock.
Enjoy it and welcome to the small fraternity of WS23V owners!!
