I apparently didn't get the lock ring knocked all the way around when I reinstalled my fuel level sender, so now it's leaking pretty badly.

If I take the seal out and clean it and the mating surfaces off, should I be OK to reuse it? Nobody has these things around here, it took 5 days to get my last one. It's a brand new seal.

Reuse the seal but if your lock ring is one of the new repos throw it away & dig out an original... They are 30%+ thicker & are much better at sealing the sender...

I was wondering if the lock ring itself was to blame too. I kept my original one.

Are you supposed to affix the ring with a dot of adhesive in a certain position before putting it in? I couldn't really tell if there was wiggle room or if it was exactly as large as the sealing surface on the tank.

Just double up the flat circular rubber gasket. No adhesive. Works perfect every time. Typical repop futment problems...

if your original seal is still good, ie not torn, reuse that too.

could not get the new one to seal either, just reused the old ring and seal.

Man, you guys weren't kidding about these new lock rings.

This is the original lock ring compared to the new one I got (Dorman 579006) - there's next to no height on the locking tangs compared to the new one!

That or this is made of such cheap metal that they just get bent flat after the first install.

Hopefully this is helpful for anyone searching in the future.
