I am building either a 451 or 470 400 stroker and will run pump gas. Curious what your real world (not foot in it) gas mileage is. Most of the events I will be going to are about 100 mile round trips or more. Yes I will be driving it to the strip. I am really interested to hear mileage numbers. Please let me know recipe and also your gear ratio. I am building a street/strip motor but the reality is I need to drive to events and will. Any info appreciated
What was I thinking....

My 493 does about 6 to 7 miles per gallon I would say also. My old 440 got a good 12 miles to the gallon keeping my foot out of it. But I was surprised how much fuel the 493 uses. I did have to jet up alot and it seems to get about half the milage the 440 got. But I am not in this hobby to worry about gas milage because if I was I would be in a different hobby. Ron

Yeah not in the hobby for gas mileage either, but the reality is costs are costs. Gas cost maybe a factor in how many events i do this year.

Mine is a mild 451 in a 72 Dart. Speedo never worked but am in the process of putting in a 6spd and EZ Efi. Should be ready in a couple months. Still won't have vacuum advance but I'm hoping for at least 15mpg.

mr. scamp runs 10.60, pump gas 496. 30" tall tire, 3.73 gear, 14 mpg @ 60 mph if i'm REALLY careful. if i touch the throttle? 0 mpg. hey, it takes fuel to make power. i think i could easily run it dry in 10-15 minutes of maniacal pedalfest.
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Just wondering what you think the cost of towing the car home will be if you break down at the track? Would investing in a open trailer not be something to look at if you own a truck and if no truck then I hope you don't break down.

Mine's a 496. 10.2 CR, 243@.050 cam, EFI, 5 speed OD, 3.23 rear and 25" tires. It gets 14 highway at 75 or so. 11-12 around town. That's neither babying it nor riding it. If I ride it its in the single digits.

First year we went on DragWeek, we took a 78 d-100 with a 496 and a Dominator. 6 to start out, then learned how to drive and jet it ended up at 9-10. Most guys were going down 10 jet sizes between driving, and racing with a Dominator. Got 12 last year with the stroker small block, 8" converter, and 3.89 gears...31 tall tire though.

I have a 440 motor with a 3.90 stroke crank and 4.350 bore, 464 C.I., Eddy RPM heads and stock type vacume six pak carbs jetted for best WOT performance, 10.5 to 1 compression ratio, Oregon non ethanol 91 octane pump swill. The car is a 3450 lb Duster with me in it and a full tank of pump gas, 4.10 gears and 315x60x15 M/T ET Street Radials tires, 727 with both a 10 inch and 8 inch converter. Best (SWAG)guessimate(speedo is off )is maybe 12 to 14 MPG driving it at road speeds doing the 55 MPH speed limit for any distances Local driving with a occasional blast to clean the plugs results in a lot less MPG The right foot controls the fuel milegages and the exposure to tickets Car runs in the high tens in the 1/4 mile with that motor I have a dual wide ban O2 system on the car and I ended up jetting the center carb. to have a AFR of 14.8 or higher, depending on throttle position, at 2100 RPM cruise
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
