Does anybody know if Indy was having any problems with the heads they were producing 8 years ago...particularly the 440-1 Aluminum heads.

I am thinking about buying a used bare set and want to know what to look out for.

No problems that I know of with the 440-1. The only problem with buying bare heads is a lot of times by the time you get them ready to bolt on you end up with almost as much $$$ in them as a new set would cost.
If used I would buy them only after having a machine shop of my choice checked them out.

No problems, Id say just as good as whats out there today.. I can dig up My receipt, but I purchased my set in the spring of "03" from Muscle motors... Hardly no port work, ran them like this for a few seasons, then sent them off to Modern Cylinder head for his Winter CNC port special.
Ran them this way for several years, until the fall of "09".
Only problem I had was a leak out of one of the header bolt holes, that were suppose to be blind.. Just thew on some sealant and a stud and that was fixed..
Went 146 MPH in the 8th mile in a heavy Dragster... Around 2300 lbs with driver. Mid 7's in the 1/4... People will say yea, its a pipe rack.. I dont care what its in one second flat 60ft and near a buck fifty in anything is damn fast regardless.

True, but the only way Id buy Indy's would be bare, all their hardware that they put in there is garbage.

I bought a set from Herb in 1993. They had a little bowl work done, but have 1500+ runs with still original guides and valves. I have been 7.70 with them. Best money I've ever spent. They are still going strong.

WHAT IS THE PRICE ARE YOU GETTING? I DID NOT SEE THAT. VALVES, SPRINGS, S/PADS, RETAINERS, AND KEEPERS FOR SAY A .700 ROLLER CAM COULD BE AROUND $550 -$750 . sO IF THESE HEADS ARE 8 YRS OLD AND 8YEARS OF USE BE CAUTIOUS
