I want to say there was but I do not remember the driver. I think it was one of the dealers assoc from up north area. Wally Booth later drove AMC's, but I think he drove the Gremlin and later the Hornet.

I never saw or heard of any nor were any mentioned in this link/thread. But there are lots of cool pics.

AMC Pro Stock thread

AMX were VERY popular in Super Stock and some in Stock.

Good article and link. Brought back a lot of good memories. I still want to think there was an independent team trying to run Pro Stock with a Javelin in 1971 or so. I remember the door had a big _ _ dealers association painted on the drivers side door. It was a white car with red lettering, but my memory is not what it used to be so I will leave it at that. Would have been hard for AMC to compete in the original Pro Stock rules since they did not have a true big block engine.

I do not remember any Javelin ever in Pro Stock. When AMC did run in Pro Stock I remember the Hornet body and I believe they ran smallblocks. I think I remeber Wally Booth ran an AMC after he left Chevy in Pro Stock. Ron

I'm pretty sure AMC V-8's were all basically the same externally, so it wasn't easy to tell if an engine was a 290 or a 401!

I would imagine the frontal area of a javelin to be quite abit larger than a hornet simply because the javelin is a lot wider car And it seemed the pro stockers back then were running shorter wheel base cars ?

Both Wally Booth and the team of (Dick) Maskin & Kanners ran hornets in the early-mid 70's. I remember Booth ran a Gremlin before the hornet but can't recall a Javelin.

I remember the Drag-On-lady super stocker being first an AMX and later a Javalin, the Jav got really BIG in the early 70's making the Hornet a more logical (lighter) choice for pro stock.

Dick Maskin was a cylinder head guru and went on to form DART engineering

I think Shirley's cars (Drag On Lady) the Javelin and AMX were all SuperStockers and not Pro Stock cars from what I remember. I think thats right but correct me if I am wrong. Ron

I'm pretty sure AMC blocks had the CI cast into them. I've also been told you could change them with a grinder and a steady hand forming epoxy into new numbers.

I may be wrong, but there was a guy in N.Y that had a S/S AMX ("American Way", "American Dream", sommething like that)that ran at NY Nat'l that tried once or twice to run P/S with it. This was when P/S was basically modded S/S cars so in theory his car could run the class but I don't think he was very successful

Here are some pics of AMX's and my neighbor Craig Wagner's Pro Mod AMX and other AMC's.
