Really needing to replace the dimmer switch on the 96 Dakota..thing is very random about switching off it's lights on me, even after replacing the headlight switch.

Question: How do I access that area best? I assume you take the airbag wheel off(tips needed for that one if it fact it's safe for me to remove myself) Or does that shell on the column pop off somehow? I haven't looked at it closely so see if there is a split in it.

Just remove the plastic cover around the upper column. It shoud be like 3 or 4 I believe Torx screws. The switch is right there. It unscrews also. Then unplug it.Just make sure you install it properly. They kind of have to slip in just right.Really an easy job.Its called a multi function switch by the way.Rocky

I ordered and replaced the Multi-purpose switch...noticed it's a lot crisper so I figured that may have done it..well tonight it did the same thing..seems the brights trigger it..Had brights on, and the lights shut off altogether..i flipped it back to lo-beam...nothing..after a couple more swipes at the switch they are back on.

I'm stumped? Awful Dangerous

My next guess would be a bad connection somewhere.

How about a relay. My PT Cruiser has one that plugged into the switch.
