Pete..

Im assuming you are talking about the manifold to head gasket, no? The right side comes right out. There is some wrangling with the heat tubes, though. The left side is no fun with power steering cars like your GTX, but once the starter is out, it will come out. Dropping the center link out helps here as well.

Just call me

Easy job. remove all bolts except one on an end, loosen that end bolt so you can make some room between the head and manifold. Fiddle with the gasket until it drops down, slip the new gasket in the other end and insert a bolt a few turns into the head to hold it, undo the first bolt and remove the old gasket, then slide the new gasket up and screw it all together. Shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes. I've done the drivers side the same way.

That will work only if the old gasket comes out in one piece cleanly. I usually see them where the old gasket is stuck hard to the head/manifold and crumbles apart. Only way to get both surfaces clean and assure there arent any issues with flatness or casting irregularities is to get the manifold out. But if it comes out cleanly, then that is a good method

The problem I found with a lot of these is people are using header gaskets on these. The header gasket has a larger than stock exh port opeining. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but there is only a small margin where there is contact on the stock manifolds. If you lay the header gasket on to the manifold, youll see that there is only a very small amount of the gasket that gets clamped. Ive had success using the standard Felpro exhaust manifold gasket or the Remflex one. The fel pro gasket is hard to find though.

I was thinking stock type gaskets as he is talking manifolds. Yes, I would run no gasket in preference to one that is too large for the ports.

had to take everything appart, heat tubes, choke tube, heat riser, torsion bar, then dropped the manifold out. took about 2 hours,i guess were slow. I used the remflex gasket. put it all back together and guess what, yup the other side has a leak too...will be a project for another day
