I've heard there is a way to tighten up the gears in the original manual steering box on a '40 Dodge. I believe they came with Gemmer boxes based on what I've found online.

Anybody know how this is done? Just looking to tighten it up a bit, nothing crazy. I know a full rebuild would be ideal but isn't gonna happen right now.

This is from 1936-1942 car service manual, I am sure it would be the same for trucks. Good luck!
