Does ANYONE know of a company..or individual, that can restore mine to factory original,at a "fair" price? It would have to be less than the $700.00 that a few companies are asking for a re-pop one! Thanks in advance for ANY info on this! Randy B.

What condition is your in ? It's potmetal and chrome isn't cheap anymore, the repop might be cheaper than trying to redo yours .

Lots of time to solder up those pits and then it's hard to get sharp detail when they grind it. That's why it costs so much to restore that part. When I had a 69 GTX I must have bought 10 of those pieces to get the best one. 64 Polara tail light trim was even worse.

Not going to happen be it repop or redone original.

I've handled dozens of finish panels for the 69 GTX .Including 3 or 4 NOS . And With exception to maybe 2 or 3 used ones none were even close to 'as OEM new'.

That said I personally have never seen a redone panel that didn't 'look like' a redone panel.

IMO, for the money buy the repop. As I have serious doubts you could have a used original redone for even close to $700

And as an fyi, the repops are nice BUT IMO they are not close to OEM in regards to accuracy or crispness of the edges.

One of the hardest parts to restore are the 2 raised chrome edges in the center of the panel. The repops this raised edge isn't as tall as an original.

ps- the last NOS one I had was about 5/6 years ago and it sold for just a tad over $2200. And I've not seen an nos one since.

Although I do know where one is, but $2200 will not buy it btw

Had a friend send his same '69 GTX trunk finish panel to two supposedly top refinishers in CA and then to the Northwest and neither would touch it and from what I saw it didn't look that bad . Before they saw it he was quoated $1200 minimum by both of them to restore it and there was no guarantee that this was all they were going to finally charge him . They both sent it back to him (the NW shop kept it for 3-months before they let him know they were not going to work on it ) so he had his local body guy fill it in and then to the local plating and back to the body guy for paint. Not perfect but not $1200+ either

I have a '69 GTX too and the finish panel is not perfect either and that's the way it will have to stay unless an NOS one falls from the sky

I was lucky when I got mine back in 79 from Mopar, the guy looked it up and said "I just show one in a warehouse in Chicago, its $45 do you want it ?" Still looks as good today as it did then, reason for this is its inside and when I do wash the car down I dry the argent by dabbing a soft cloth so I dont remove it, over time if you rub a rag on it it will slowly come off.

If its not NOS it wont look right, the repops are not so great, The only ones I have seen that look good are the ones by Krusin Moons, as a matter of fact they look great, you would think it was NOS.

To redo these right is not cheap and Krusin Moons is the ticket if you want it done right, but you pay for it. If you only will pay $700 dollars your panel will not look so good IMO

69x...for $2300.00 it better be PERFECT! If I had the money..I would probably go that route,but....I'm on a fixed income,so even if MCB's panel isn't PERFECT....it's got to look better than my pitted-up piece! My GTX is NOT a show car any way..but a street cruiser, and occasional drag car, running low-11's...soon to be high-10's. I will post close-up pics in about 15 minutes or so! Thanks! Randy B.

Yes $2,300 is a lot but they are Perfect, for what you will be using your car for I can understand not paying that amount, but for someone who has a show car they are the way to go.

Have you tried hitting the chrome with polish ? sounds like a clean original would suffice , the only people that will see it are those in your rearview mirror

That's rough , it will be cheaper to get the repop than to fix that one .

You're right John....but the center GTX emblem is available and the black area can be filled with body filler, epoxy, etc. That leaves the chrome outer and inner the real problem but for a driver it may be worth the effort?

Here's some GTX emblems and the one states he has two finish panels, maybe in a little better shape, maybe not?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/67-68-69-70-Plym...ies&vxp=mtr

this emblem isn't worth it unless you want to have it replated and you can't find a repop but this is the seller that states at the bottom that he has two finish panels, but they are listed until sold, don't know if they are still available or the condition??
