I ordered a new dip stick and tube from Mancini racing. The tube is 12 inches long the one that came out is 8 inches long. I went to the garage and measured the one in my dart it is also 8 inches. Mancini says they sell tons and nobody complains he swears its correct for a 340. Has anybody run into this or do they make different length tubes and sticks for small blocks? whats in your small block 8 or 12 inch(insert joke here)tube.

Does anybody have a 340 dip stick tube out. If you could measure it from end to end so I could cut the new one to fit. Thanks

I know my original numbers matching 340 has the short dip stick tube/stick like you describe. I run the longer Mancini tube/stick in my stroker. I could not find the shorter tube/stick like the original. You could cut down the longer tube if you have the shorter stick. If not I am sure a shorter stick could be located they don't tend to go back.

Bill, thanks for the reply. I need a measurement of the original short tube if anybody has one out. My original one was damaged and i'm not sure of the length. It appears to be around 8 inches. I can cut the new one and use the old stick. Thanks

I'd trim the tube so with 4 qts in the sump on a level surface the stick shows exactly full but it'd probably be much easier the other way to remark the stick if your tube height isn't dead on

Yeah, OEM "oil level indicators" were notoriously inaccurate back in the day. Level ground, 3 qts = "add" one more = "full". This is a smart idea on any muscle-era Mopar. I drill small holes, no ambiguity that way.

LA pans also really need a "picture frame" baffle at about the 3-qt. level.

I recently did this following Rick's instructions.
Ended up cutting about an 1" off the dip stick tube to get correct reading for my 340.
Very happy now.

I used a mini tube cutter and had the alternator out already. Some tape to mark the location and measure twice cut once attitude. Plus something stuck in the tube to catch anything that might have fallen in.

Did cars with A/C use a longer tube to get up away from the belts more?
